I have never played a Final Fantasy game either, but I love their soundtrack. I have played other games by Square Enix like Secret of Mana. You don’t have to play the games to enjoy the music guys.

Final fantasy more times than not has an amazing soundtrack, especially with the scenes that happen in the game to balance the songs. I'd recommend playing them and listening to the song played at the moment and see the amount of presence they give off
