Seeing the realization that a song from 1982 was sampled is crazy. Man, the music from the late 60's to the early 90's is some of the most creative, ORIGINAL and enjoyable ever. People played their instruments and didn't worry about if they had a pretty face, branding or dancers. The band playing behind brother Michael were crazy good session men. Jeff Porcaro on Drums (Toto), Louis Johnson on Bass (Brothers Johnson), Steve Lukather on Guitar (Toto), Greg Phillinganes on keyboards (Michael Jackson, Toto, etc...), Michael's sister Maureen McDonald provided background vocals. May the music never be forgotten.

In 1994, Warren G HEAVILY sampled the original 1982 single by Michael (with Michael's permission). That groove was set by drummer Jeff Pocaro and guitarist Steve Lukather , musicians from TOTO and Louis Johndon on bass guitar!

It's amazing how many rap songs have sampled beats from 60's, 70's and 80's songs. And it's more amazing that young people don't realize it. We did when I was growing up and we didn't have just about every song ever in the palm of our hands.
@ORLOSTguy

@@davidchastang3895 Great point on having every song ever in the palm of our hand. If you'd told me even in the 70's or 80's that in the future, I would be able to have access to any music I wanted either through my computer or my phone I would have thought you were nuts. Although I would have probably said it would be cool though. And it is.

I like the Warren G and Nate Dogg song Regulators too. I'm in between the two timelines because Michael McDonald came out with this when I was in middle school and it was played for years after, then in college Warren G and Nate Dogg came out with "Regulators" and it was super smooth but everyone knew that funkyness came from Michael McDonald.

In the “video” ( videos had not really taken off yet. MTV came out August of 1981 but they still didn’t have actual what I would call videos) anyway, in this “video” Stevie Nicks is the woman fading in and out. I have heard this song and seen the video hundreds of times and only ever looked at her face and caught on who she was very recently. I’ll be 50 this year so we can all learn something new everyday. Anyway Michael McDonald was part of the Doobie Brothers and this genre of music was called Yacht Rock Great music. Nothing beats Gen X music 🎶 ❤

@@kristinakilby6798 Ummm, well sample is just the art of taking a piece of a song and creating a new track with other components paying homage to the original and refreshing it like Subway. Regulators is Regulate, a 90's song by Warren G which is one of the best examples of the craft. As for Special K, the Treacherous Three were the generation before, and doing reunions by the 90's so it's anyone's guess.

You have GOT to listen to "What a fool believes" from Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald on lead vocals.. One of my favorites

That’s right this is a classic of Michael McDonald, who also sang with the group The Doobie Brothers in the 80’s! Our music was the best, know as Blue Eyed Soul(white groups)!

Just repeating what others have said, he was lead vocals for the Doobie Brothers & his duet with Patti Labelle "On My Own" is an absolute favorite. Have you reacted to Countrytime by Blanco Brown? If not, please do the one with the lyrics onscreen. Thanks.

Lots of rappers sample classic songs. The very first hip hop song was “Rappers Delight” by the Sugar Hill Gang way back in 1979. They sampled “Good Times” by Chic.

Great, great song. He just refuses to accept that she’s gone and not coming back. I, for one, have experienced this! The underlying heartbreak in this song is so palpable.
