So if Avedon didn’t pay for the prints, it’s not Avedon/Foundation’s prints! So they pay for the work, or deliver back the prints! If they can’t show the receipt for the prints, that’s the same as Hofmann can’t show a written agreement between him and Avedon!

I hope he's found a lawyer to represent him for a civil suit. An oral agreement is legal. If he has witnesses still living that might win it. In a civil suit, its the preponderance of evidence.

Where is the Amon Cater Museum in this equation. They commissioned the work. Print a copy. Sell it for $450K. Pay damages of $150K. Pocket the difference.

The Avedon Foundation is being ridiculous. and greedy. If they recognized these prints and allowed Hofmann to sell them they might not make money directly BUT Avedon's work would reach new highs and they'd profit from this in the form of books, posters, exhibitions, etc. Also, Avedon would return to the public's mind. VERY shortsighted people...

I agree! Those photos wouldn’t look as good without the work that Ruedi did on them. The only right thing to do is to authenticate them!

Don't blame Dick. He didn't do this to Ruedi-whom he respected as the Master he is. PS Dick would be disgusted by MUCH of the Foundation's Produce. Shows and durations which have proliferated post-mortem would NEVER have made it to opening g if he was there. PS Dick has never needed putting back in the foreground-He never hasn't been.

If you'd like more complete info, you can ask.This presentation lacks important foundational info. Ruedi IS and HAS been screwed, but it wasn't Dick Avedon's doing. The Foundation can suck ass here, because you can be sure the CLIENT paid his fees.

There are a bunch of great images in the series, to me it's Avedon's best work, but not crazy about the print quality and framing either. It also depends on the quality of the negatives, what you can get out of them. No comparison though to Irving Penn's prints.

Dick controlled the images tightly and was not interested in selling prints. The selling of his work & monetization of the post-mortem mythological profile of this person and artist makes my head spin. Open a book, review facts-discuss,WHY the Museum holds the negs. In The American West was a COMMISSIONED PROJECT- and in fact, they had been hoping for a portfolio of industrial, US Western 'baronial' types. Like them or not, The client in this case owns the negs.

Dick Avedon is NOT the AVEDON Foundation. They are revisionist history peddlers who didn't live the history. For those of us who worked with, knew & experienced him, we surely agree it's fd up that Ruedi has been hamstrung. I wish Avedon Foundation luck preventing me from reproducing, selling or whatever I choose to do with my own Avedon prints, Polaroids, contact sheets or else. And cannot wait for the day they may dare I clue any photos taken of me by Dick over decades. I wasn't present in a capacity of model for any one of them, so without that or a photo release signed by me-that will CO$T them. Dick would twirl in his knickers over how that org runs...tacky

I always thought a lot of Richard Avedon, I was wrong. It looks like Richard was a shyster.
