So very true. Truly a great man and a great musician. And there is no equal to Dame Joan either. The world has been a sadder place for me since her passing. If I want to hear the best, I listen to Joan.

Bonynge is quite a connoisseur of the soprano voice. He heard flagstad in her great roles and is one of the few people left at all who heard Callas before 1955. Not to mention his role in the A list career of Dame Joan.

Many important critics have singled out Bonynge’s ballet recordings as some of the very best renditions. They all mentioned that he seemed to infuse the orchestra with the dancer’s movements, which so many renowned symphony conductors fail to do. I forgot to mention that I once met Richard, and told him that I had purchased his complete Swan Lake for my wife’s birthday. He was very touched by that.
