Very nice!! The last time I saw Richard Elliot, he had this same band, about '91 or '92 if memory serves correctly. Just an awesome lineup, so tight, you can tell they played together a lot. Also, you gotta love the mullets!!! lol Seriously, this is great, really brings back some good memories!!!

Richard has never played on a Selmer, at least not during his pro career. Back when this was recorded he was playing ALL Yamaha, this being a YTS-62. He started using both Yamaha and LA Sax on his Soul Embrace CD (1993), and eventually became LA Sax full time. Personally, I've played them both, and the Yamaha has it all over the LA, and I like Richard's sound better back then, too. He also used to play a Strathon Adjustatone mouthpiece (in this video), now he plays with a metal piece.

Amazing song. Just started hearing a guitar version of this lately and fell in love with this tune. This is definitely sounds better with a sax. My wife would laugh at me loving a song callet Stiletto Heels since any woman that knows me knows I love how women look and walk in Stiletto Heels! Just bought Mr. Elliot's CD. Yea..

Yes, this was a Yamaha YTS-62. His mouthpiece was a Strathon adjustatone, the ligature was "built in". Tom Scott was using the same one for a while. Personally I like the sound of his Yamaha and Strathon much more than his current setup. But that's just me, I've always had a hard time with change! :)

That's the beauty of cd's, they stand the test of time :) I agree, I prefer the music he used to put out, it was more upbeat, and more versatile. What do I mean by versatile? Well, his new music will appeal to an older listener, sort of one dimensional, great for cd sales, though. His older music could be listened to by both older and younger listeners, it wouldn't put you to sleep, like some of his newer stuff can. Just my opinion, but he's not hurting for money, that's for sure!

He is a planet. The take he does at 2:08 is a solar system. There a lot of those here.

I don't know which mouthpiece he uses today, but I just prefer his "older" sound, like on this video. He undoubtedly as a player has gotten better, I just never saw anything wrong with the sound he had. In other words, I don't know why he ever switched to LA, Yamaha's have quite the reputation. He still has his own sound, just in a different way. Obviously you're like me, and prefer his old sound. That's not knocking him, it's just being honest.

so, in this video he is using yamaha tenor sax? does anyone know what type of ligature that he use in this video?

Perhaps in his old tower of power days he did, you may be right. I know for certain during his "solo" career, he was all Yamaha, then switched to LA Sax.
