Scared To Dance must be the most criminally under-rated album from the whole punk scene. For me, it's comfortably in my Top 20 favourite albums of all time. Richard Jobson is a legend, as was the late, great Stuart Adamson - a punk/post-punk songwriting partnership up there with the likes of Strummer/Jones. I saw them back in 1978 when they toured as support for The Stranglers and they absolutely knocked it out of the park - still up there for me as one of the best gigs I've ever seen. PS - great interview! 👍

I knew Richard a bit in London in 1980/81 latter days of the Skids. He hasn't really changed. Only 19/20 at the time he was living the dream of being a pop star Top of the Pops guy but was really himself. He always felt like a guy that could handle himself if needed to. My judgement is I have positive memories of him, so he left an impression on me. i wish him well.

It's not often that Alex Harvey gets a name drop, so hat doffed to that. I spent a couple of years working at Pitreavie Castle, my uncle worked doon the pits (under the watter ie Forth) and I spent a year living in High Valleyfield before moving to my own place in Rosyth. Long long ago, but this interview reminds me of the good times had.

Jobbo, you absolute legend. You won't remember, but I saw Skids in Gt Yarmouth in 79, aged 15, went backstage afterwards and you, Stuart and the guys were really cool with me and my mates (gave us a tin of Newcastle Brown and a pork pie from your rider!). You'd ripped your trousers on stage, and asked me if I wanted them (original Johnson's, Kings Rd). Made my year mate, will never forget it. Thanks and atb

I lived in Düsseldorf for five years I've got a house in Dortmund (and live there now), one of my old friends is an enthusiastic St Pauli fan - and I visited him in Hamburg when Celtic ladies played a pre-season match. Got steaming, fainted, smashed my head in, woke up on a strange couch (the St Pauli fans carried me home) and off we went again. Ach yes great times.

Bellahouston is my old school! Never knew the Skids played there, must have been after my time, but saw them loads at Bungalow Bar etc just before Into The Valley kicked off. Then later when I had a minor music career of my own would run into Jobbo or Kerr oot The Minds in London. Lovely men both but Richard was the most impressive, old head on young shoulders.

Such punk veterans whose left-wing views are based on genuine historical knowledge and cultural interest are rare in Germany. Characters like Richard Jobson, Jean Jaques Burnel, or Jaz Coleman has not been produced by punk in Germany. I'm no friend of the St Pauli scene. But I am always a friend of the more credible Scottish claim to humanity.
