Richard L. Gamelli, MD, FACS, 2013 Stritch Medalist

Richard L. Gamelli, MD, FACS, was awarded the Stritch Medal at the 63rd Stritch Annual Awards Dinner on Nov. 16, 2013 in recognition of his cutting-edge research, superb surgical skills, rigorous training of the medical leaders of tomorrow, and bringing hope and healing to people around the world.

Dr. Gamelli was my son Matt’s doctor for 7 years. Dr. Gamelli was a genius as a doctor. He saved Matt’s life many many times. Matt loved Dr. G as did I. We were so fortunate to have him as Matt’s doctor. There are no words to adequately express our gratitude and love for this man.

I was Dr. Gamellis patient in October of 2003 with 3rd degree burns on 25% of my body, I was 6 years old. I had a 50% chance of survival and outperformed and survived. I remember the doctor very very well he and the team were very established. I wanted to meet him again before his retirement and it brings me to tears he's passed away. The Camp I Am Me for burn survivors is also another great program for the children who have suffered from burns and I am honestly happy everything happened the way it did because if it never happened then who knows where or what I would be doing today and to bring me such inspiration.
