Yay!! Laymon! I’m loving Kelsi’s year of Laymon readathon so far. I just finished my January read, which was Darkness, Tell Us. It wasn’t good by any means, but it was very entertaining and I never knew where it was going. It’s just bizarre 😂

Bite is not so rump heavy but there’s a five page long description of stealing looks at boobies, So it balances out!

Toby Bones was one deranged dude Laymon knew how to create an ultimate psychos. Great book come out tonight was well written.

@gardenyardgainz3394 I agree, Toby Bones is definitely one of my favourite villains. Laymon definitely has some colourful, and deranged characters in all his novels, though. Glad u enjoyed it 🙂👍

@@jilladams7573 definitely would say Simon from Endless Night was his worst and most deranged. With roy from the celler as his grossest. Laymons baddies definitely pushed the psychotic barrier to the limit.

For sure! He writes extreme horror. Lots of trigger warnings in his books but they make for a good trashy horror book when you’re in the mood for it

My favourite Laymon is probably Night in the Lonesome October, just for the really, really weird vibe on the main character's nighttime walks. My next favourite would be Endless Night, which I think you'll love. It's like Laymon's version of Intensity by Dean Koontz. I don't usually like vampire stories, but The Stake was also very good, and pretty original.

Friday Night in the Beast House is the fourth book in the series. The Cellar is the first, followed by The Beast House, and The Midnight Tour. I didn't care for The Cellar or Friday Night (was incomplete, if I remember correctly, as he was working on it when he died), but I did like The Beast House. I think I have read most of his books, including A Writer's Tale. While I have never considered him a "good" writer, he is one that I will randomly get the urge to read every now and then. Body Rides, One Rainy Night, Darkness, Tell Us, and Stake are ones that I generally recommend to people looking to get into him. Along with The Beast House, if you want to get into that series.

Laymon is available in hardcover...just mostly in the UK. There are some US hardcover releases that aren't too hard to find: "Midnight's Lair", "The Stake", "Savage", and "The Quake" from St. Martin's Press, and "Into the Fire", "The Lake", and "To Wake the Dead" from Leisure are fairly easy and inexpensive to track down. Most of his US hardcover releases were extremely small print runs from smaller publishing houses, generally somewhere around 1,000 - 2,000 total copies. Far easier, and less expensive, to pick up UK hardcovers produced by Headline. :)

Never read any books of his books before but found Bite at my local library bookstore .Will definitely be reading it after I finish my Dean Koontz book False Memory . I love Vampires and can't wait to read it .Also my first of his I own.

I don’t think he’s that extreme. Either that or he doesn’t handle it well. I guess endless night was quite full on but what he describes doesn’t have as much impact as say Ed lee or Jack ketchum

The whole history around the initial publishing of The Woods Are Dark in the US is fascinating. Agree with you on the dangers of picking up some of his original US releases due to the censorship.

Ive just got into Laymon over the past few months. He's really good fun to be fair. And yes, some of his books go way over the top with the r*pe stuff, but many don't. Sure, he still obsesses over womens bodies, but a lot are on teh tamer side. Beast House series are amazing books. - Well... the 1st one "The Cellar" is not so great and has some proper wrong 'kid' stuff in, but once you get past that one, the 2nd "The Beast House" and the 3rd "The Midnight Tour" are some of his best books (Ive read so far). "Friday Nihgt at the Beast house" is one off short story written after his death, and doesn't feel like his work. Its really not a great story, but a must if you've read the others. (By the way you have the rarer version with "The Wilds" included, thats a hard one to find!) - The Woods are Dark is a nuts story for sure, and not one of his better ones. - Good video dude

Awesome collection! It appears you are missing Night Show (I think that's what it's called) and he also has a short story collection but I forget the title of it. I believe there are 4 books in the Beast House series but I could be wrong. Wish I had some positive things to say about his books but... yeah... y'know 😂 Glad you are enjoying him at least!

Great video! That's an awesome collection! My favorite by him is probably a toss up between Funland (which you don't have) and Midnight's Lair, but I have enjoyed almost everything I've read so far. I really want to find Endless Night and Island based on Booktuber recommendations.

The best Laymon book that you don't have imo is Funland. If you want to collect the Beast House series, it goes 1) The Cellar, 2) The Beast House, 3) The Midnight Tour, 4) Friday Night at the Beast House. I wasn't a huge fan of the series, but you didn't seem to like Lonesome October that much whereas it's my favorite Laymon book so different tastes.

Bite was my first ever Laymon back in 2006 still an epic read. Funland was a brilliant coming of age book and well exposes the danger of peer pressure. Laymons sickos were always proper deranged Roy from the celler , Leslie Glitt, Bodyrides but sickest of all has to be Simon Quart from Endless Night. Blood games was my least favourite. Still my favourite author.

The original Beast House trilogy is The Cellar, The Beast House and The Midnight Tour. Skip The Cellar, it's absolute trash with lurid descriptions of paedophilia. You're missing Alarums, After Midnight, Out Are The Lights, Night Show, Quake, Funland, Flesh, Beware, and Allhallow's Eve. Definitely check out Dark Mountain, One Rainy Night, The Stake, Savage and Blood Games.

Yeah that one is terrible. None of them are 5 stars but you know what you’re getting into when you pick up any of his books. They’re just trashy fun. I can’t get enough of them haha.
