Richard Marx said that he doesn't like American Idol because it doesn't let the contestants show who they are as artists. Because the contestants sing cover versions of other people's songs. Randy Jackson has played on Richard Marx's albums, and Marx has a lot of respect for Randy Jackson's skill as a musician.

Loved your comment. I swear a lot of the problem is about artists take on Management and the realisation. There are many cases in point which prove how important in the whole equation the Management side of things is. I once heard from an insider very high up in the Music Industry who gave me a percentage comparison with regard to all of the ingredients of an artist being truly successful in every department and it amazed me. It went something close to...SINGER 2.5%, SONG 2.5%, LUCK 5%, GOOD MANAGEMENT 90%. OK, maybe folk will find this hard to swallow. Surely it's all about the artist/singer or the song or you have to be lucky...but one day you have your eyes opened and you realise just how important it becomes as an artist's fan-base grows for all of the mundane tasks like booking venues, selling tickets, taking care of advertising, looking after image, sorting out security, sorting out transport, etc, etc to be taken care of in order that the artist/band are able to totally focus on singing, writing and developing their talent or gift. I always think of it as being like a swan gliding along a river. Everything looks peaceful but the day to day tough stuff is going on nearer to the swans feet which you barely ever see or realise is happening. Off camera, i'm sure Management is sitting around waiting to get Richard to his next interview...just a thought or two.
