My speculation on song.... Marx as a child killed his father and fathers mistress by setting the house on fire. Perhaps he was autistic or otherwise mentally disabled so there was no proof or evidence he did it, so he and mom moved to Hazzard. Mary was his friend, who had a boyfriend and was lusted after by the sheriff, who followed Mary and her boyfriend. The sheriff saw Marx watching Mary and her boyfriend in the car. Mary must have rejected the sheriff, in anger he strangled her and used the scarf left behind by Marx, hoping to pin it on him. Marx lawyer got him off, so the sheriff burnt the trailer to force Marx leaving.

In version one they don't declare it a suicide, its left with no one knowing if marx has been charged or not. and at the end of version 1 Mary says something different in this one version 2 she says I know this sounds weird but I don't know what id do if I ever lost you as a friend, in version 1 she says, you know everyone thinks I should be afraid of you, but im not. Not massive differences but does add to the who done it theories.
@jogrant3851 Жыл бұрын
In the official version you don't see her sitting wrapped in a blanket by the river, looking lifeless. And at the end she doesn't say she isn't scared of the person she was warned about, she says something different in version 2.

@@cmj6915 There are a few, like the scene where they hold hands, the protagonist pulls it away here compared to the first one where they embrace, the scene where the cop drives by, in the first one she stops and stares at him, but here we see her smiling and waving at him. The interrogation scene has the guy near the tape recorder detail how they have no proof, no fingerprints were found on Mary etc. and that his recommendation is that they rule it as a suicide. And a few other bits that either show a different context to the other video or how this one could be from say the Cop's POV while the first one was from the suspects.

Its not the Sheriff. The main char (RM) as a boy suffered in an unstable household, seems both parents were cheating on each other. He as a boy had to experience marriage breakup, seeing his mother cheat with another man. He BURNT the house down, we do not know if he killed his mother or not, but he's seen as a kid cutting his hair (a sign of guilt/repentance) after burning the house down, and at the start, both Mary and his mother were floating on water, which symbolizes them as Ghosts. Sheriff could be a stalker, sure, however, there's no other evidence to suggest he was a homicidal maniac. And we can assume if he was stalking Mary he has done it before RM entered the scene and met her. RM obviously made out with Mary and had feelings for her, he was devastated when he caught Mary cheating on him in the car with another unknown man (not Sheriff). Given his history with jealous and mother issues, this adds to evidence that RM killed her. In the lyrics, she walked alone on the river, then he said he left her there. How could she walk alone with his presence? Clearly he was stalking her. The childhood scenes people ignore but it matters greatly. In criminal psychology, its well established that murderers, rapists, stalkers have childhood trauma in most cases. He is the Hazard. Listen to the lyrics how his life gone wrong, he appears to blame everything & society for it. The raged filled man.
@nibs4272 ай бұрын
I agree! There are a lot of signals in the video that people don’t get, like in the beginning him seeing Mary and his mother, meaning that Mary triggered the feelings he had by his mother as a child (that boy is not right)..
@samithajayasinghe21 күн бұрын
Wow nicely explained.
@mapletree34345 күн бұрын
There is way more of menacing sheriff in this video. He's looking at that RM piece of clothing like a man with a plan...at least camera leads us like that, in that scene and he stalked and photographed Mary! Then...as you pointed out, it's possible the unreliable narrator (RM) is the guilty one, with HIS added scenes and issues. Finally, Mary eerily said 'I don't know what Ill do if I lose you as a friend'. She wasn't attracted to him but maybe he was her only ally in this town as well. He was crushed when he saw her with another guy. She knew she lost a friend. She was desperate... Her line is haunting, so maybe she felt alone in the world and did it herself. Sooooooo, this video didn't clarify a thing for me :D. It added layers to all the characters of this tragedy, but every scenario is possible for me still. Majestic music and video story-telling!

This alternative version of the video puts a bit of a different spin on the lyrics - whereas the original video shows a "storybook" narrative, this video appears to be viewed from the eye of a particular watcher - possibly a stalker? The footage at the start with the little boy running from a house fire also almost implies an ambiguity in the opening lyric. We don't learn any further details about the narrator's mother, and there's no indication that the 'folks in town' took a dislike to his mother, only to the narrator himself. Hazard is the name of a town in Nebraska, but as the word "hazard" also implies danger, could Richard have done that as a subtle play on words? Did "my mother came to Hazard when I was just 7" mean that when the narrator was 7, he and his mother migrated to the town of Hazard? Or could it have implied that when the narrator was 7, something happened to his mother (perhaps she died in a house fire), and the "folks in town" thought the narrator was involved in some way?

The sheriff accused him of strangling Mary with the scarf. The investigator (or prosecutor) responds that there needed to be a lot more evidence for the suspect to face charges. There were no fingerprints found on the wet scarf or on Mary and the crime scene had not been been properly secured and been trampled over by multiple people. @chriscrica60496 жыл бұрын
@gleisylopez33386 жыл бұрын
