I wouldn't go as far as calling the audience hostile or disrespectful. Certain comics like Richard can make an audience feel so at home and comfortable that some of these boneheads feel they can say anything to them and being the stage veteran that Pryor was he brilliantly knew how to put them back in their places without offending or making them go into defensive mode. This wonderful man was an innovator, pure raw comedic genius, I am certain that Richard Pryor inspired many many other comedians, we will never see the likes of a man like this again, he was indeed the coolest cat of them all.

This is the true test of a comedian: what to do when you have a hostile audience who just isn't feeling you. The true greats, like Pryor and Burr, are like that lone soldier holding the bridge against superior forces. "You wanna piece of this? COME AND GET IT!"

He was raised in a hard life in Illinois. He rode right out of that. The money was good, life was good. Then the people taking side cuts on his comedy and movies. He wrote for movies. Yeah divorces, cocaine, alcohol and set his hair on fire. No one talks about the IRS and how Hollywood did him. Should have gotten an award for Harlem. Nights

He was used to it! It was an honor passage, to throw a line at him, not tohim, but at him -- none of those ppe were hostile to him, and have him smack you back in your seat. And if you got a Real Good come-back from him , you made history and they'll be talkin on that at your funeral even if you liveto be 90!!
