I used to think it was next-to-impossible to fully realize Scott Joplin rags on guitar - but Richard Smith has proven me wrong. What an amazing talent whose creativity and taste never get old.... it is an absolute crime this man isn't widely famous for his gift.

He hasn't proven you wrong at all. It IS next-to-impossible!!

How is this humanly possible?-- Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes. Absolutely one of the greatest guitarists that has ever lived.

The man's got hands and fingers faster than lightning. He forms his chords and fingering so fast from one end of the fretboard to the other, you can barely see it happen and not missing a single beat. On-time every time. It's like, instantaneous. Truly God-given hands. And fingers.

You don't have to know anything to love listening to Richard Smith but you actually have to be a pretty good guitar player to even begin to understand how how impossible it is to play like that.

When I found your "Entertainer," I really hoped I would find you doing more Joplin Rags. Pineapple is unbelievable. That tune down though.

He is a legend. Ragtime pieces are the hardest thing I have ever learned on guitar. The hardest thing is the memory of the chords etc. He amazes me.

I've been watching and listening to this guitarist's videos for a few years now. It's phenomenal. Playing ragtime as well, on the guitar, respecting the rhythm 2/4 is extremely difficult. It's not just the tempo. It is the whole of the melodic line and rhythm that must be totally mastered. And this man plays all this with apparent ease. A lot, a lot, a lot of work alone ...
