Back when this was written by Joplin, he took it to a publisher,and the publisher said it might not sell well because it was too difficult to play. Well ? There you are folks.
@JoshuaSobel4 жыл бұрын
I thought that was a myth? I've heard the same thing said about several other pieces by other composers. Either way, it makes for a fun story. Personally, I don't find the Maple Leaf Rag too hard to play on piano. But then I found the Fig Leaf Rag to be very tricky. Go figure. Either way, this is a fun performance!
@Kuijl13 жыл бұрын
Well Ragtime at that time was 'the' popular music rising. it had to sell (hence the remark of the publisher). The average pianist who was on level 4 out of 10 would had problems with the Maple Leaf Rag (probably lvl 7). But again the music had to sell and the publisher was afraid this would be too difficult for your average at home piano player and it would halt people buying the sheet music. Maple Leaf Rag is still advanced piano music, but of course there are many more difficult pieces. Especially in Contemporary Ragtime you can find extremely difficult Ragtime music, like William Bolcom's Serpents Kiss (level 9 maybe even 10) and many others.
