RICHARD SPAVEN: Worldwide FM Session

Drummer & producer Richard Spaven comes to the Brownswood Basement for a special live session. Richard is a familiar name in the UK Jazz world who has played for the likes of José James, Flying Lotus, The Cinematic Orchestra, Guru’s Jazzmatazz, and Gregory Porter alongside writing and performing his own highly regarded music. Today he is joined by Stuart McCallum on guitar and Chris "Fatty" Hargreaves on Bass and Tendayi on vocals performing music from his new record, Spirit Beats.

Still remember my first time hearing Nova. Wow, took me to a whole new world listening to Spaven's work. Brilliant stuff. Great shouts to the guitarist, bassist, rapper and Jordan Rakei in absentia! This was really beautiful to watch. Enjoyed it!!!

The really interesting thing for me was the wear pattern on the snare, and the consistent nature in which his stick found the center outside the run of play made me think, he wanted a little more from the drum in mic. And he practiced closer to the rim to replicate the intensity. Brilliant..
