I was once hypnotized by an album of Richard's. For a time nothing else could fill the space on my turntable but for him. Indomitable control of a guitar accompanying - with similar authority - a voice that roared, snarled or prayed through scenarios in a darkening world. Onomatopoeiac (?) soundtrack stalking snakes through a garden of verse, midst howling guitar pulse leaping, ripping, tripping, tearing legs walking 'neath canopies of Wellingtonian stature. All this AND the bugger can rock!.

Shit, it's nearly twenty years since this came out. I bought it then and it still sounds great. Utterly brilliant.

The title of this song is a nod to the Cooks Ferry Inn, northeast London's music venue of choice for up and coming bands of the 60's and 70's, which Richard's band Fairport Convention certainly played at. His main character in this song is a tough guy club owner whose demeanor, wardrobe and outlook are greatly changed by a female (and some exposure to other chemicals) in the late 60's.

The dBs on the left side of The Pond and this guy on the right. Those are the most criminally ignored by music listeners.

When you put mock in front of things, it has a good chance of being funny but Mock Tudor? That's out of this world.

"Mock Tudor"(or "Tudor Revival") is a British architectural style of the late 19th century.
