As teenagers we used to do the seasonal farm work. We would get paid per basket so the harder you work the more you earn. It was a wonderful way of introducing young people to work and money. I bet loads of teens today would love the opportunity to make some extra cash in their spare time. The argument that we need to import people for these jobs is just untrue.
@blueroyals713 сағат бұрын
We have had to import since the 90´s.... Living on benefits became socially acceptable and houses were sold off cheap. The UK has declined since. Summer jobs still exist but they are too short for what farmers require. If the lifestyle of someone represents a 40k salary then here lies the problem, nobody will come off benefits unless they have a 50k salary.

Brexit in name only. Cardigan bay you used to be able to pick up buckets of shells in the 60/70's, but then the eu boats came in a mopped up everything. Shrimping boats can be seen almost on the rocks at night, but not supposed to be withing 5 or 6 miles. Nothing is done. I know a fisherman who used to catch 1400 or so maceral and sell them off the beach. There's hardly any now. Farming still go most of the old eu rules, so nothing has changed much there. Immigration is out of control, and we have gangs going round the local town with knives robbing folk, shop lifting, driving illegal cars and nothing is done. Our governments have failed us for decades now, but this labour government is just anti British. They are, in short, traitors.

EU reduced UK fisheries quota over time, 88% of fish went to EU. The fisherman stated that there was no market due to the deal EU gave us. Any conversation over past 5 years with EU access to UK fish were always part of it. Also he stated there was no UK infrastructure to handle caught fish as under EU most of it went to EU for processing. Although they got the right to UK fish almost exclusively there was no actual change or investment in the lost infrastructure in the UK fish industry in the last 5 years. The UK fishery industry declined significantly over the last 20 years and it was to due to lack of fish.

Frankly given pretty much every tie with the EU had years long transition periods 5 years is a pretty poor time to test for change, the fishing transition period for instance hasnt even actually ended yet. It was five and a half years so we've still got months before it ends. It ending also only means that a quater of the EU's fishing qouta in UK waters is returned, then its negoiated each year thereafter which given it will be done by Labour for the next 5 years I cant imagine much will change assuming it doesnt go the otherway and they actually give the EU back that quarter. All in all nothing has actually changed for fishing yet, at least in terms of fishing qouta's. If we had a decent government in charge they could just take the short term hit of tarrifs by the EU and declare that 100% of UK fishing must be done by boats coming from and returning to the UK, in the long run EU member states would stop caring given tarrifs are worth the cost to just help their much smaller individual fishing communities. Compared to us who obviously given we're an island and have some of the largest waters in europe have the most to lose(as we have been) or gain from it.(not that a booming fishing industry is gonna really do much nationally, but its at least nearing parity potentially with the negatives of tarriffs for a few years.) It would be an easy political win given how much weight these communities carry, and given that more vague seeming harder to measure economic topics like tarriffs wont interest people as much as seeing busy fishing communities reviving. If anything tarrifis on EU goods for a few years could be good for helping push UK businesses towards actually making use of the new trading opportunities we have now in healthier, faster growing(although at this point growing at all is plus compared to the EU(and UK)) markets in the rest of the world.
