This guy is a marvel, and even though he never finished his magnum opus the way he wanted, he is still respected by his great work in animation, bless you Williams.

I worked with the Williams team, on Roger Rabbit. These videos are shot in Willams Soho Square ( I think it was) offices. Soon after they all moved to Camden to start Roger Rabbit ( I joined them there). Each day after watching RR rushes, we'd watch The Thieif rushes- the 20 minutes of completed film at that time. He'd been working on it 20 years. Each cell hand drawn, the detail outstanding. I have never seen anything so unbelievable since then. Nor will I ever. I've seen equally detailed CGI and it looks shitty in comparison. There is nothing as good as hand drawn. Each cell must have taken seven hours to ink and paint. The details were outstanding. At the rime of making WFRR ( Roger Rabbit), there was always talk of what he'd do with the Thief. Continue making it? As it was, Disney, those horrible horrible plasticky people, bought the idea and turned it into The Theif and the Cobbler. Which is a horrible cheap version of what they saw in the THeif rushed that Williams had spent years making. I hate Disney for their monopoly and money, which creates mass produced awful films full of cheap storylines and terrible tacky animation.

"Bought " the idea how much did he sell it for and why ?

@@pakimanheaven6435 Williams didn't sell Thief. Warner Bros, who funded Thief after he worked with them on Roger Rabbit, ousted him from his own project after Disney released Aladdin (which is pretty much Thief with the classic Disney sheen, how original) and Williams missed the deadline that was set for him by WB.

For some reason, this advertising spot around 4:07 is one of the things which took me from, "I want to research animation," to "I want to DO animation."

And the sad part to all of this until know Richard doesn’t know what will happen to his project which is sad sense this would lead to him never making a animated movie 😭

I might be 100% wrong, so don't quote me on this. But I'm in Canada and it sounds a lot like Canadian jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. I bet if you did a skim through some of his music, you could have a good chance of pinning it down. I used to listen to his jazz compositions a lot when ill as a kid because he was on the radio a lot. He passed away in 2007 at 82. I hope that's helpful 7 years after your comment! Peace!
