Chop Suey! is an extremely catchy song. System of a Down had the remarkable ability to create the most persistent earworms of the early 2000s. Then these guys come around and somehow make it more catchy. This version doesn't get stuck in your head - it builds a house, raises up a white picket fence, hangs its hat and takes up permanent residence inside you very soul.

I’ve been off and on looking for a jazzy song that has the line “Why have you forsaken me” and I thought chop suey was a red herring but no! It was this cover. I’ve being badly singing that line since 2010 whenever something goes wrong

I heard this before the original and was honestly a bit surprised the original was as gloomy as it was, given how upbeat and jazzy this is. Like, I should’ve guessed based on the lyrics but it still caught me off guard.

This was my daughters favourite song. Played it at her funeral. Nobody understood, except me and her sisters. The head of her university was there. Totally baffled. She would have loved it.
