Very good reference! Anki is a good app. I recommend starting with a radical/primitive Anki deck, and then continue into a 3,000 Kanji deck (ordered from frequency, not difficulty.) The more you use the language, the more natural it becomes to you! Start with what you use! Learn why Kanji are what they are! Knowing why you use words always helps you remember. :)

I heard premade Kanji decks sucks for memorization. It sticks at least twice as well if you make your own cards, use your own images, for your own Kanji that you want to learn.

1. Learn hiragana & katakana first. 2. (@3:30 into video) learn to write properly, one reading only. 3.(@5:00 into video) use Anki software, despite not being very intuitive. 4.(@7:00 into video) learn 10 characters each day and review those learned every day.

#4 10 words NOT characters. The whole point of the method is learning the characters in context. Words provide that context. So learn words, not characters. Over time as you learn more words you'll naturally learn other readings of the individual characters.

If you use the iPhone anki app, you can enable the scratch pad and draw the kanji you are reviewing. It’s not perfect, but it’s very convenient if you don’t care about penmanship. If you want to write kanji nicely, use 6 degree kanji practice sheets. Don’t forget to pair Anki with Heisig RTK book, RTK introduces kanji methodically and logically for easier acquisition of kanji.

Hey Scot! Thanks for the tip, I didn't know anki supported that! Good to know.

I’m a kid so my life learning Kanji is way easier and also, I currently memorize 60 kanji. I am going to try this method, thank you for the strategy :)

You're most welcome Noah, this is how I broke through the wall virtually every foreigner hits when they start to learn Kanji. I tried many "popular" methods that all resulted in not being able to progress. This was the game changer for me, hopefully it will be that for you and many others! :) Good luck and remember to have fun!

Richard Heiney your strategy now made me learn 26 kanji in less than 2 days, I know how to say them and write them! Thank you again for the methods :)
