fun-fact, folks.... we went on a recce to JB in the january before this gig, just to see how practical it was to play in the planetarium, & reassure the scientists that our stuff wouldn't interfere with the sensitive equipment there. it was a cold saturday morning, & we took gary's son joe with us- he was about five or six at the time. he pointed at the large dish & asked what it was, & we told him "telescope". turns out he couldn't say "telescope" properly then, & that's where the title is from :-) (we also met triplets that day- three identical girls who worked in different bits of the visitors centre, & whose idea of a laugh it was to dress the same as each other.)

Often wondered about the voice transmission in this piece - did JB jokily try to contact the 'Celenites' by radio?

@@MarkTheMorose it was an experiment, absolutely legit, to demonstrate the concept first proposed by arthur c clarke of bouncing radio signals off something in orbit to get them further around the globe. it predates sputnik by a year or so, iirc. we got the audio from the bbc library!

Love this, RMI is such a great band. leave to them to create music that sounds like a big signal booming into space and exploring, love the driving sequence that carries the music along , complex, engaging work, enjoyed;))

Dear Richard,i will take a big whiff from Eloy's new album,i already like them, have the early 20 years but no idea how they sound today ! Im curious what they have invented as band and how they have advanced their style ! Think its more modern, maybe with more ambiental soundscaping, more modern instrumentation...sequencers even ! Well,i will soon know it (and tell you what i think) ! Many bands of the north of germany have a distictive style, very melodic, which i like ! Its most complicated to write beautiful melodies that stay between the ears,i think ;-) Thanks for it my friend !
