I have watched over 15 different You Tube channels trying to understand these concepts and improve my real Estate photography. I have to say you are the only one that takes the time to walk us through the steps that get you from A to B to C etc. I hope to someday take a class from you, but be sure to know you are the Yoda of on-line photography training! Thank you so much, I am prospering in my small start up photography business, and it is all because you have taken the time to slow things down and take me through the process in an understandable way. I think of you every time I am shooting and editing my projects. I have a long way to go, but you are instrumental in getting me to a place where I can understand and learn how to become better. All I can say is thank you!

So glad to hear from you and know you are well. I was getting worried. I have not hear a podcast since March 2nd. Hope Brian is well also. Just finished a 6 week daily binge of all 130 episodes and then silence for 2 months now.

Nice video Rich! The concept of exposing the in camera settings for the brightest object in your flash shot is not stressed enough in most flambient training videos.

Agree! That’s why I did this video because even I found I wasn’t connecting with enough photographers out there.

Hi Rich Thanks so much for these great informative videos. I am new to the industry and really interested in this style of shooting. I am wondering for the ambient photograph, do you shoot aeb bracketed shots and then merge them as an HDR image or do you only shoot one ambient shot? Thanks in advance

Hi Rich. Thank you for your time and expertise. It's amazingly helpful. Question, I see the different camera settings that are used for the flash shot, but could you comment on what the settings are that you set on the speedlight itself please? Again, many thanks!

I just adjust power for the specific area so I can’t say a general rule

Hi Rich! Thanks for all you do, I really enjoy all your videos. Quick question on the flash settings. Are they manual per shot or do you use TTL? Appreciate all the help in advance. 😊
@RichBaum2 жыл бұрын
Never TTL only manual adjusted every shot
@tytlyf3 жыл бұрын
I usually do my flash shots with the flash sync speed. (1/160). Regardless of the brightness of the room. But I guess this makes sense if you don't want to add a window pull.
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
The goal is not to need an extra window exposure but to expose for the window. And if you can’t get there at ISO 500 just drop your ISO and do a window pull but you should not need one.
@tytlyf3 жыл бұрын
@@RichBaum the issue is white balance out the window in that case and painting in the adjustment. To me, that would take longer.
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
Again I really don’t think you need to do an extra window shot as there shouldn’t really be an issue with white balance looking out the window, at least with me and my shots

Hey Rich, I think i must have watched pretty much all your videos and love your down to earth approach. Always my go to guy. I've practiced many times and feel like i'm getting there. So i get that you expose for the highlights with flash shot but what about your ambient? The windows are blown out on that frame so are you just getting a general/overall room exposure? Hopefully not too much of an inane question.
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
That’s pretty much Andrew, ambient is overall exposure, logical shadows and ammo to fix issues like shadows and flash glare. I also have a video on what I look for in my ambient shot.

Thank you for the video Rich. How does dynamic range Of the camera affect the shutter speed setting and the power setting on the flash to get a proper exposure in the window
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
Sorry but I can only give general power settings as every room is different.

As always, great video! Know this is a6000 shots, what do you use on a7iii for lens? (other than 17mm tilt-shift)
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
Usually my Sony 16-35 GM 2.8. It’s a wonderful Zoom and I also have 17mm and 24mm Canon TS if I need them. Also sometimes use 24-70, 35mm and 85mm and for super wide I have the 12-24 Sony but not crazy about it.
@smoejith92833 жыл бұрын
@@RichBaum thanks! I've been looking at the Sony16-35mm f4, it's on sale right now. I've been shooting mostly with a Sigma 12-24mm 4.5 EF mount on mc-11 and a 17mm TS on the mc-11. Sometimes I think I should just get used to using primes and ditch the zooms, but it's so handy in the smaller homes. PS. I also have an a6000 and the 12mm Rokinon. I like to have it with me for backup.
@smoejith94083 жыл бұрын
@@RichBaum not to be a pest, but what don't you like about the Sony 12-24mm? BTW, I bought one of your presets.. didn't really need it, (have developed my own secret sauce, lol) just wanted to send some support your way! Appreciate all your great Videos and Tutorials!

Is there an average amount of how much to raise your shutter from the ambient to the flash shot?
@Clintlederhat Жыл бұрын
Hi Rich, I'm must have missed something in your presentation. If you exposed for the brightest area in your ambient image, why is the window, presumably the brightest, blown out? It looks like a darker area was metered.. Thanks for your time.
@BoboMedia0073 жыл бұрын
Do you typically shoot the flash shot or the ambient? just curious.

Why don’t you use luminosity blending mode?
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
Because very often Masking in Luminosity mode causes weird color shifts especially masking over bright subjects. I just find it easiest to mask in Normal mode. But I do occasionally use luminosity mode.
@jwade123613 жыл бұрын
@@RichBaum Would you mind making a video, if you have time, regarding the two methods? and when and when not to use luminosity?
@jwade123613 жыл бұрын
@@RichBaum I just found, in excruciating fashion I might add, out what the difference between luminosity and normal mode is. I get it now.

Why not bracket and use HDR merge?
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
The results are just not the same in my opinion, but if HDR works for you then great but I found in all different situation the only thing I can rely upon is using lights
@HancockFilmProductions Жыл бұрын
What aperture are you using?

I have trouble understanding how increasing ISO helps you use less flash. Don't you just have to increase shutterspeed more with higher iso since iso will also increase ambient light?
@RichBaum3 жыл бұрын
I urge you to just do a simple test, set your camera to ISO 100 and get the right flashpower and then rase your iso and compare.
