I think if it wasnt for the stellar pitching from Johnson and Schilling, the Yanks may have taken it in 5, maybe even a Sweep. I'll go further to say that if Mariano didn't just throw the ball to Jeter but aim it in the Ninth, he would have closed out the Game 7 and the Yanks would have had 4 titles in a row. But that's just me.

As a D-backs fan, I was absolutely thrilled with the 2001 World Series. It wasn't heartbreaking to me. That was one of the best World Series ever played, and that would have been true if Rivera had successfully closed out game seven. By the way, Joe Torre was right. Pulling the infield and outfield in with fewer than two outs in the bottom of the ninth or extra innings is the proper way to defend that situation.

01 is the best ever. Best Game 7 ever too. As for 03, Josh Beckett was lights out phenomenal, his Game 6 shutout performance is one of the greatest things I've seen. Also the Marlins had punch in their lineup, clutch hitting and baserunning too. Baffling yes, but the Fish were just better at the end of the day. @@Nick_Valentine2702 91 was good too, but 01 was better. I say this because you look at what America was going through back in 01. 9/11 just happened, we were going to war in Afghanistan, people lost loved ones, the economy had tanked. It was all terrible. New York was hurting too and they needed something to be excited about. Taking the Series to 7 Games gave them just that.
