Still my favorite Steven Wright joke: "When I was eight years old, my grandmother gave me $10 and said 'Now don't tell your mother I gave this to you.' I said, 'It'll cost you more than that.'"

Hey Steven. I’m a fellow New Englander myself. I live in Worcester and have been listening to your stand up comedy with my father for years since I was a kid and, can relate to also having told your jokes as a kid and being looked at funny , others laughed historically. I’m now 44 unfortunately Dad passed away in 2010 but, every time I hear you talk or of course your comedy I know that he’s there laughing along with me. ❤ He would come out and tell one of your one liners in a bar full of old timer’s sitting around and then he’d throw out like… I woke up from a dream this morning and I instantly went into a daydream” or “I hate when my foot falls asleep during the day because then it is going to be up all night”😂😂😂 some people would look at him like wtf most would laugh at him bcuz they knew him. You’re the best Steven. Keep ‘em coming and thanks for all the years of entertainment. You’re The GOAT 🐐 in my opinion. 😂 Ahh The Grandpa joke is hilarious 😂😂 Tysm

I've been wondering for years where he's been and how he's doing. Loved his standups in the 80s and 90s, but then pretty much silent. Fantastic interview, one of the best I've seen the RES do, regardless of network. What if he was in the wrong way? Love it.

He frequented talkshows for the last 20 years. Most notably "the late late show" with Craig ferguson. Which there is a great compliation of. According to himself in a 2021 interview. he says that aside from those appearances, he's been doing the occasional stand up set. And writing I suppose.

Had the pleasure of seeing this guy live in the 80s when I lived in NH. It was in a theater and he came out, felt the back stage curtains and the first thing he said was, "Someone needs to iron these". We went a little "baked" to the show which made it better lol, and came out with sore stomachs from laughing so hard! His joke about the light switch in his apartment that didn't do anything (until a guy from Germany called him and told him to "cut it out") was one of the funniest things I've ever heard!

Steven Wright is the ultimate stand up comedian. His delivery is so great. To me he is the stand up equivalent of Gary Larson the Far Side in print. Both are incredible, best at their respective avenues. If the Far Side had a voice it is Steven Wright. If the Far Side/Larson were a stand up comedian they would be Steven. No slight to either, only love as both are tops in their craft.

. At about the 6:30 mark he talks about the genius of George Carlin, and Carlin no doubt was........but in his prime, I'd put Steven Wright up against ANY of the "geniuses" of comedy.......in my opinion, there was NOBODY doing the kind of BRILLIANT comedy he did, and NOBODY who's done it the same since.....just an UNBELIEVABLE mind to come up with some of the STUNNINGLY funny thoughts that he had !! SO grateful I got to see him live back back in the day, which is STILL one of the funniest stand-up shows I've _ever_ been to..... 🙂 .

Burlington Mass, really? I hired a guy to paint with me in that area and he used to tell me Steven Wright jokes, like the one where he has the world's biggest collection of seashells (he keeps it on all the beaches of the world). Little did I know that Wright was from town.

My favorite was something like “I was a Cesarean baby…but you can’t tell…except that every time I leave home, I go out the window.” My sister and I were born Cesarean. We both thought the joke was hilarious. But when we told it to our mother, she didn’t get it. 😅 That made it all the funnier.

Back in high school, 1990-91, I typed out George Carlin's 1982 dirty words list. I put the heading of "these are the words you are not allowed to say in high school." copied it and handed it around.... The teacher I had after lunch was the only one to say a thing about it. She walks up and says "I hear you have a list of words" I said yep and handed it over... she chuckled and said she was going to make copies for the teachers lounge. A few short years later the education system went to hell.

I think it's a safe bet those last two comments are coming from younger people whose interactions and life experiences , through no fault of their own, have been an endless life-long.. rapid-fire..visual assault..internet info blast.. "smart" phone inundation fest . They just can't relate to someone who interacts at Steven's pace and cadence of speech, and they clearly haven't had the pleasure of enjoying his comic genius.
