The soo called separation of church and state is a novelty of the modern era. In Europe, the perfect partnership between every kingdom/principality within Christendom and the Holy Catholic Church worked for almost 1700 years by the time of the 30 years war. They understood how to properly think back then, unlike us today. They correctly thought in philosophical terms and in complete detail. They knew the scholastics and from a young age completely understood Logic, Ethics, Physics, Cosmology, Epistemology Ontology and Metaphysics. So they correctly understood Objective Truth and ordered their lives accordingly. Modern Man shakes his head and lifts his nose at their " superstitious " lifestyle. But hindsight being what it is, looks like they will have the last laugh. Great vids

Good lord, what a statement. Richelieu is the best example of precisely the opposite: For the benefit of France, he completely and utterly disregarded ANY expectations one might have of a Roman catholic cardinal. His ecclesiastical rank and title was no more than an easier way to power, resulting from his reluctant acceptance of the bishopric of Lucon. Politically he famously displayed complete separation of secular and spiritual matter. Perfect partnership? Are you for real? Do you actually know ANYTHING about European history ?? Which, in a nutshell, IS for a major part the history of conflict and contest for political power between the Roman Catholic Church's claim for omnipotence and the various secular rulers. And please let me know what Holy Catholic Church you are talking about that existed before Jesus Christ was even born, according to your count.....Lastly, the people that tried to gain better understanding and promote application of Logic, Ethics, Physics, Cosmology etc. where exactly those who were occasionally burnt on the stake.

What about the smear campaign against Leibniz by atheistic Enlightenment thinkers? I think it's safer to say both sides were equally abhorrent. The great man shies away from power

The church was becoming perverted because of politics, the separation benefits church

Because few people were taught back then, and were taught well.

I’m wondering why Spain was considered the “senior Habsburg” branch. The origins of the Habsburgs was in Austria. Wouldn’t that be the senior branch. I do find reference to the Spanish branch as senior in some places beyond this video, so I’m not questioning the usage here. I’m just curious as to why.

Their origin is actually Habsburg castle, which is in modern Switzerland. Spanish and Austrian branches come from Charles V, Spanish branch from older son. I think that this is reason for senior branch.

I will return to these and improve them eventually (and ultimately make a whole legitimate series on history & politics) - atm mostly focusing on the MP LPs though.

What is the followup video for this mentioned at the end? I'm researching de Richelieu for a work project.
