wrong answer , He was written out of the show when is actor who played the part, Larry Romano, asked to leave for another sitcom. His final appearance is in Paint Misbehavin' in season three, his only appearance in Season 3. He could also be briefly seen in the ending montage in the series finale episode.

@Richie2k6 No he wasn't he wouldve went with the others to become an even more regular but wanted to do another show so he stepped out the other show flunked out after 6 episodes 7 unaired he just made the wrong decesion and couldn't get back on the show as a regular agter all that in Season 3

Nah. I think he was fired. Everyone HATED Richie. He was a poorman's Joey from Friends or Vinny from Welcome Back Kotter . He was so obnoxious and one of the worst characters in sitcom history. I'd take Carrie's sister any day over him. Should have kept her over him. The show was so much better without him and I happily watched when they replaced him with James' brother. He ruined the first couple of seasons for me.

agree. :o) it's harder being the straight man because their role is 2 make the funny guy look funnier; by comparison. ergo, the funny guy is liked more (arguably) by the audience & it's easy for the straight man's effort 2 go undervalued. but w/out them relinquishing their ego (the performer/showman seeking 'approval'), in favour of his partner getting the focus, the funny man would have no buffer and not be as funny. for an actor it's a real learning curve. that's what victor was saying :o)

a 'straight' man is the buffer to the comedian. if you think, in every comedy double act (moreorless) one is the crazy one and the other one is often serious or put upon. think bud abbott, dean martin, ernie wise, oliver hardy, bing crosby (to bob hope) - they were the straight men to their respective partners.
