Townes and John Denver had so much in common. Born about the same age and died about the same age. Both were bipolar with very high IQs. Both were great singer songwriters who were held in high esteem by so many. Botth were geniuses. Both dealt with drug alcohol issues. Both were born into prominent wealthy families. I believe that if they had not died so early that they would have collaborated together. I am sure they held each other in the highest regard.

Townes was a dear friend to me and Wrecks. Wrecks toured with Townes, playing bass or with Micky White. Wrecks and Micky are the Hemmerridge Mountain Boys. We all loved Townes so much and we still miss him very much!

hard to believe that these two masterpieces were written 1987. Well past Townes' so-called peak in the early 70s.

It's hard to imagine how one man, with all the personal problems he had, could produce such a catalog of material that has become looked at as his is. Sometimes the lyrics get confusing if you don't know the story or the people behind words, but he wrote so you could attach your own life to them. I guess he is what is called a genius? While most of us writers are trying to write something that an artist would like to record, Townes just wrote what he felt and got it cut anyway. Great stuff!
@zatoichimasseur67672 жыл бұрын
He didn't write so that you could attach your life to these songs. He wrote from suffering, pain sadness, and happiness, bitter joy.. tragedy.. he wrote from truth, For the Sake of the song.... That u attach yourself to his songs because u can relate as most humans can... Is a natural feeling.

Marty Robbins is my favorite singer-songwriter. Townes is my second favorite. Their styles are different but they were the best at what they did. Their songs just take you to spectacular places.

"At My Window" At my window Watching the sun go Hoping the stars know It's time to shine Daydreams Aloft on dark wings Soft as the sun streams At days decline Living is laughing Dying says nothing at all Baby and I are laying here Watching the evening fall Time flows Through brave beginnings And she leaves her endings Beneath our feet Walk lightly Upon their faces Leave gentle traces Upon their sleep Living is dancing Dying does nothing at all Baby and I are laying here Watching the evening fall Three dimes Hard luck and good times Fast lines and low rhymes Ain't much to say Feel fine Feel low and lazy Feel grey and hazy Feel far away Living is sighing Dying ain't flying so high Baby and I are lying here Watching the day go by 💙

Townes Van Zandt - At my window

He was never the same after the shock treatment he had. His life was almost over before it really ever got going which is part of the reason he drank himself to death. He was an amazing song writer who had many demons. We should just celebrate his music and his message and pass it down to this younger generation who have nothing but junk to listen to these days.
@kathleenmcwhirter35836 жыл бұрын
Many of the world's greatest artists were tormented souls. Van Gogh, Hemingway, etc, down through the ages. Townes had his demons, but none of them touched his artistic genius.
