The Mozart of skating. Such a prodigy. An incredibly brilliant talent, and at the same time, a modest, wonderful person. Who could ask for more?

actually 60 minutes in a feature done on Midori in 1992 entitled "the tale of two Midoris" referred to her as the Michael Jordan of figure skating.

I loved this, it was one of my favorite exhibition routines ever. I just thought the idea was brilliant, to do Singin in the Rain, then Over the Rainbow, & I loved the costumes

Check out that moment at 4:45 when she goes from one spiral position to another, right with the music... took my breath away. There will never be another Midori Ito!

Midori did this same exhibition skate at the NHK Trophy in 1990. Both are beautifully done.
I never appreciate Midori at the time because I was such a die-hard fan of Kristi. But Midori was irresistibly adorable and charming. Say what you will about her artistry, she had a magnetic quality only few skaters can ever manage. I love the costumes!

This lady makes me SOOO happy! "She's going to jump with that umbrella!" Yes my thoughts exactly haha. Would anyone explain why she was doing two rounds? The last one with On My Own song.
@lsrasr1586 жыл бұрын
Wina B - there is a jpn tv version of this skate. On it, after Midori completes over the rainbow and leaves the ice, the audience keeps clapping wanting a curtain call. Midori must have been prepared for this so she changed costumes and came back on the ice to perform the On My Own number.

I still say her and Tonya were better than Kristi and Nancy. Just more entertaining

tonya better than kristi.....it s a joke
@lsrasr1586 жыл бұрын
clo martin - In 1991 would not call Tonya better than Kristi a joke. Tonya was a better technical skater, beating Kristie at Nationals and Skate America. At the Albertville Olympics, Scott Hamilton said Tonya was the 2nd best technical skater in the world after Midori. Kristie was a more polished, artistic skater then Tonya. When Tonya was on, she was more entertaining than Kristie and Nancy. Unfortunately, Tonya went downhill after 1991.

I wonder what she is doing now?
@Cmc9959 жыл бұрын
She really was very impressive, however, I think Tonya was way more artistic than her. Tonya skated with more passion, Midori had great speed, but it really looked more about jumping as opposed to any artistic impression.

+955pokerface lol. Tonya had zero emotional capacity. As cold as ice!
@Cmc9958 жыл бұрын
+cj90 Not really, her '94 Olympics was quite emotional, and i don't only mean because she had a mishap and cried, i feel the performance expressed the strain she was under leading up to that year. except instead of it being a golden moment, it was a nightmare. still pulled it off well.
@cochlearruby8 жыл бұрын
+955pokerface I meant emotional/artistic. Being stressed isn't artistic.
@Cmc9958 жыл бұрын
+cj90 You're right, Midori does have more choreo and classic style than Tonya did, i just felt Tonya looked more passionate in some of her movements.
@Cmc9958 жыл бұрын
Seeing more of Midori's performances now, you are right, i was mistaken in saying Tonya was more artistic. Tonya had some of the biggest potential to be an all around star, more than any of the skaters of the era! thats waht i see in her. But yes, Midori's '92 Olympic program was beautiful, and was written off as more athletic. Kristi just had the favor all around.*****
