Golden rule when selling: it's worth what someone's willing to pay for it. The second it walked into the shop Rick wanted it and the seller could tell. He held firm and walked out with $5000 when Rick really wanted $4000, and if he didn't like it he would've offered $3,000.

This seller is trying to roll out the hussle on this French Cuirass.. The armor was intended to protect against sword strikes rather than gunfire but this would be dated to around the last time that breastplates and mounted cavalry would be seen as effective on the battlefield.

Two things.."You have to listen to the expert"...No you don't... it's THEIR expert.. Their person that they do business for and are probably friends with.. Anytime they say.."Do you mind if I bring in an expert?"..then you might as well cave...the expert is never gonna side with you... 2nd thing is the whole thing that Rick says.."I've got to frame it..I've got to wait for the right auction".. That shouldn't matter for the negotiator.. That's on the pawn shop to dress it up to sell.. that shouldn't be in a negotiation.. What the pawn shop does to get an item to sell shouldn't cost the seller in negotiations.. What if Rick decided to frame something in all gold..then the seller should have to pay for that when negotiating? That's just idiotic...

Wow, I never knew French carabiniers wore this armour in the 19th century. I would say they're cuirassier armour but had to look it up, wiki says Napoleon, in 1809, ordered his carabiniers to start wearing the same armour as his cuirassiers due to high numbers of casualties. How to tell them apart? Carabiniers were armed with short rifles or muskets (carabines), cuirassiers were armed with lances and swords.

The breastplates weren't only for show, they were put into action at a time where roughly a third of the losses were inflicted by bayonets. For shock cavalry focused on melee combat, it was a real advantage to have your chest basically impervious to bayonet and saber cuts, which would be the main threat you'd face in your intended role.
