Dempsey leads with a left, glove to the face of Dykstra. Dykstra tumbles onto Dempsey and starts raking his face at the bottom of the pile. Dykstra uses his "nails" to fight with. Hence the nickname stands.

I guess technically it was a "left hook." A Jose Ramirez punch, it was not, though.

I remember Dempsey with the Yankees. He was one of Billy Martin's favorites because he always gave his all. A real solid and smart catcher.

Yeah. Dykstra was definitely a dick, but c'mon Dempsey. He got the best of you in that scuffle.

I was at that game in 1990 sitting in the upper deck behind home plate visiting relatives in Alhambra and College street in Chinatown from NYC. Being a Mets fan especially 1986, I was naive to Dykstra being such a jerk.

@@ManChan-w5p , I hear ya. As a lifetime Met fan thrilled with the possibility of a championship, I kinda overlooked our Mets hero's bad qualities; Dykstra's prickness, Mitchell da gangsta, Mex', Doc's and Darryl's love of the powder, Tuefel's, Darling's, and Sid's hatred of Texas cops, Mcdowall's pyromaniac episodes, to name a few.

BS Dempsey, he wasn’t scratching you - Dykstra face planted you. Stop trying to lie your way out of an ass kicking. Scratches would be separate lines from each finger, you had a solid scrape/wound from Dykstra slamming your face into the dirt. What a liar you are.
