The Surfaris wrote this song in less than 30 minutes and as a filler song to finish out the record they were recording. A very young Frank Zappa was at the studio when this happened. I'm sure the Surfaris didn't expect that song would be such a big hit and STILL be HUGE 40 plus years later. Great job guys.

Didn’t know that. Zappa shows up in the weirdest places. I was watching an old Steve Allen tv show from the sixties and a young Frank Zappa was a novelty guest. He came out and played various parts of a bicycle. Allen described him as an avant garde composer. Allen also had Jack Kerouak, and Lenny Bruce on his show.

@@robinvibes6916 I’ve played that stage many times…looks like it had been raining…it’s an amusement park in PA. Shows are at scheduled times but if weather interrupts, it could have been delayed and crowd is smaller…the seats go way back and crowd usually is walking by and stops in to listen. You might also recognize the stage from the opening of Taylor Swifts documentary, where she frequently played…and in it you will see my bands banner ‘Sug’r Bear’. Yep..we shared a stage with her. Lol. I was famous briefly. Lol.

Mike O'Shea : Yeah, it sucks reading comments from people who feel it's their duty to "shit" on things posted that entertain & bring a smile too so many others. It's also probably safe to say, that the majority of those haters don't have an artistic bone in their body. I've been a musician (drummer) for 35+ years & these guys are a BLAST to watch. They could probably get extra $$ atop their gig scale w/ a huge Tip-Jar on stage (or collecting a separate cover-charge at the entry of whatever event they're hired to play at !!!) LOL. They're that entertaining to watch, I hope they keep it up!!! So, to the instrumentally inept "Entertainment Vampires" Go forth & multiply" (rinse & repeat)

empire They probably make a halfway decent living with this act. The cheese factor is pretty high, but in this setting, that's what they're looking for. These guys obviously have talent, but walk into most bars with a cover band on a Friday night, and you'll find an equally talented group of musicians. There are just so many talented musicians out there, it's tough for anyone to really rise up above the masses, especially if they're playing covers. I will say, these guys are good with playing to the crowd. They have a good act for where they are playing.

I feel like these guys talents are wasted on local fairs, or weddings.

If I could choose, I'd go with the beautiful scenery, the friends and the memories of the state fairs and weddings over the Hollywood glam and fakery.

My uncle had a band like this back in the 60s and 70s. They were 'entertainers' beyond musicians. They would put together fun schticks to keep the crowd entertained. There were probably 7 or 8 guys in the band, including keys and horns, and they were all crazy.
