Soon after his incarceration, I met Mr Stevens in the CMF Vacaville prison gymnasium. He was very kind but he said he wouldn’t sing Your Still A Young Man, again. The gym had great acoustics. I remember Blacks, Whites and Hispanic inmates truly respected this singer. As the Gym officer, I gave Rick his space and let him be. So glad Rick changed his mind. Praise God for transformation through the True “Power of God”. Rick was a wonderful example of what God can and will do if YOU just go “down on your knees” and repent. What a song! What a testimony!

@@lindalyte7307 Truly, many inmates I met were damaged souls, yes; but each had a soul like the inmate thief on the cross who spoke out for Christ in his dying moments. What did Jesus say to that dying person? “Today, you will be with ME in Paradise.” Of the thousands I met in prison over 33 years, many gave their hearts to God. So often these men appeared as the Prodigal Son did in Jesus’ beautiful story. Once they repented, a new change happened in their heart. And the results manifested the salvation only Our Lord provides.

As 'Mimi' stated on the intro, "One Of The Greatest Soul Singers Of Our Time,...", and that he is. That amazing voice of his is very much still present. Tower of Power has been extremely blessed (especially in the late 60's, 1970's) to have had some most incredible vocal talent cutting loose from behind the microphone (the great Lenny Williams being another). Rick Stevens (via Bump City) has to be considered one of the very best vocalist that 'Tower' has ever brought out front to the stage.

The date on this is a year off. I believe this performance was on 6-13-12 (and not 6-12-13) because it happened on the same night that Giants' Matt Cain pitched his perfect game against the Astros.

He killed some very bad people in a drug deal gone wrong. I'm not excusing his actions, but he was probably afraid that it was him or them. I think 36 years behind prison and his conversion to the Lord may get him to heaven. Let God be his judge; not you.
