Oh, more of this kind of thing, please! I've long thought that the Reading '96 performance of Rez/Cowgirl is THE definitive version, there's an energy and epic feeling of space to it which is incomparable. And the way the main lead line starts slow and clean and gets gradually more distorted is ::chef's kiss:: So happy I now have a version of it which isn't ripped from a cassette tape recording of the BBC radio broadcast!

Yeah! I was listening to it live in my bedroom at the time. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Never buzzed off a piece of music as much as that moment!

@@ManWalksDogs I imported it from tape to my pc and tweaked the eq to try to get the best out of it but there's only so much you can do with tape quality lol

@@Compress2Impress I don't even have any reliable/working tape decks to play them hooked up to the laptop these days. Last time I bothered, years back, it was a nightmare with eq'ing, as you say, and after much fiddling still came out a distorted mess that I was really dissatisfied with. Put me off working through them which was always my intention with digitisation of audio cassettes & video tapes. Ah well, they were fun to use at the time and we must've had lower standards!

Can't believe this is available to download after all these years! I listened to it and recorded it live at the time. It was recorded on tape before being re-recorded onto Minidisc, then recorded as a mp3. So good to finally get a quality copy after 24 years. This captured an epic moment that has never been beaten for me. Absolute spine tinkling epicness!

It's interesting that it's termed the 'Reading' version, when the band debuted it at the Alpes Festival in Leysin the day before the Reading gig. Then again, the recording of that set (along with an awesome Dark Train intro) was ruined by a radio DJ speaking over it.

I've always wondered if, though being British, they KNEW that, in the US, a "rez cowgirl" is short for "reservation cowgirl", i.e., a native American cowgirl.

That is some seriously cool info, thanks Gene. They are technically separate tracks, but as everyone knows they are often played live as one piece. I guess the only guys who can answer that are the maestros themselves.
