I was lucky enough to be Tom Bukovac’s guitar student for a few months in the burbs of Cleveland. He was in his early 20s and I was about 14 years old - so yeah, basically a lifetime ago. But he was one of those rare individuals that make an enduring impression. I remember going guitar shopping once with my mom driving us around to various guitar stores. Tom would pick up a guitar and the store would just stop and gather around as if lured by the pied piper. He would enlightened me about music: “You know there are other good bands besides Guns N’ Roses. Listen to the Beatles or country, too.” He would talk about trying to stay awake at the wheel after playing bars and clubs all night when he was in high school. He was a positive role model at a time in my life when I was a confused and rebellious adolescent and someone I never forgot. I was so happy to see how his extraordinary talent blossomed into an amazing career. Couldn’t have happened to a better guy.

No bout a doubt it my friend. Having those qualities is one of the main reasons that seperates the most successful session players from the rest. There's certainly other things that go into being a sought after session musicians in the studio for sure. However a musicians persona in the way they present themselves to other artists makes all the difference for the most part. To put it plain & simple take the wise words my pop's told me as a kid growing up in life. 🤔 "If You're Cool, You're Cool. But If You're An Azzhole, Well Then You're An Azzhole, Beat It & Go Kick Rocks!" It's not very hard to understand really, right? 🙄 +++Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Soul My Friend+++ 🤘😜🤘

Jimmy picks like Tom. Watch his right hand when he burns around. Wobble wobble. I believe it's called sarod picking, or scalpel picking. Also, John Mc Laughlin was one of the first to influence players in this technique. The sarod has a very deep body and players have to crank their arm over and down. Wrist twisting is natural in that position.

I played in stereo to our Angus Heffers in the front paddock yesterday while painting the fence, which No45 proceeded to pick off. Really Rick, with the humblest, humblest. Guthrie & Uncle Larry. What a show. Absolute GOLD. I wondered why the album wasn't on Spotify, but so pleased to purchase on bc. Can you come play in Australia one day. You're welcome to stay with us on our farm in Buffalo, South Gippsland. Bring the boys Tom. Thankyou❤

The "In Stereo" album is rockin' and will keep your attention. It's been on constant rotation since I bought it about a month ago! Money well spent and music that is not cookie cutter!

Guthrie is truly inspirational as a human and a guitar player. His humility, honesty, and deep connection with his instrument are qualities that many of us aspire to embody. I also hope that his journey back to Nashville allowed him to experience some awesome rock and roll! Thank you, Rick, for conducting such an amazing interview. It's one of the best and most enjoyable videos I've watched in a while.

Crazy thing is that young, aspiring guitarists now have content like this at their fingertips. I wish there were channels like this and Steve Pearce's when I was first starting to pick up the guitar. Its fascinating hearing their honest stories of success, as well as hard lessons learned along the way. Instead of focusing on the doom of music because of A.I., I believe and hope the guitar players that rise to prominence in the coming years have watched and studied great artists like these gentleman, and eventually/inevitably transcend what we currently think is possible on the instrument and bring an entire new evolution to guitar and music in general.

My dad was 50 when I was born - like being raised by a grandfather - a lot of wisdom I was too young to get, but I did later - many of those, "Oh, that's what he meant" moments - an amazing life influence...I bet your kids love you.
