I was once drunk in KC and walked into the Grand Emporium I think it was. Joe was up on stage playing a solo. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a guy throw a bottle at him. He dodged it nicely. I couldn’t believe anyone would throw something at any musician let alone one of the best. The bouncer grabbed me and began to throw me out. While Joe kept playing with his left hand. He basically did sign language with his right hand to the bouncer. Told him no not him that guy beside him. All with one hand while still playing. It was amazing. The bouncer apologized. Shook my hand and so did Joe after the show. Cool dude. Very humble even though he’s probably earned the right to be arrogant. Class act. On and off the stage.

I don't think you can skip over players like Vai & Satch when it comes to contemporary music history. Not to mention all of the other guitarists that have been on Rick's channel! My two favorite guitarists and I'm still learning new things about them 25 years later! That is something special!

I was at the first G3. They filmed it as well. Minneapolis, MN. Anyway, I was able to go backstage and meet Steve Vai and Stu Hamm. I was waiting for Satch and Johnson to come out so I could get their autograph and say "Hello." It was getting late and my friend was outside in the cold waiting because he didn't have a backstage pass. So I decided to leave because I thought Satch wasn't coming. As I am leaving out the back door, Satch and his manager come down the stairs and where on their way out the door. I quickly handed him my CD booklet and his manager said "Ok. We can do one." so then Satch signed my Time Machine CD book. I didn't get to talk to him but at least got his autograph as he was leaving. I was able to talk to Vai and he was super nice. I asked him about Bad Horsie. He plays the beginning in Crossroads and I asked if he had the song fully written at that time or wrote the intro for the movie and finished the song later. He said he had the whole song.

@@MarioJMunoz-cw8bf Of course, the comment was in jest. But there is a good reason why so many Italians-Americans took up the guitar through the 20th century-(and the history of jazz guitar especially attests to this)--they we immigrants who could not afford pianos. The affection for guitars (as opposed to the more traditional Italian affection for mandolins) persisted and has become somewhat of a cultural inheritance. The final thank you's at the end are really moving. Jimi Hendrix playing, as Steve Vai said (around 34:20), was a "voice of God". I was at a workshop where engineer Eddie Kramer played Jimi's guitar solo from All Along the Watchtower, with everything else muted. The sound and energy from his guitar playing was so profound - everyone just sat in silence for a few moments afterward.

So when they reopened at 2 the next afternoon,I showed up to the venue with a large crowd outside for sound check… all these fans were confused when I walked right thru the door while I was asking what the crowd was here for. They said Steve Vai and I said I’m not that familiar with him. I sat in the corner and was mesmerized by his talent. Needless to say, the folks waiting outside were a bit jealous when I told them how much I just enjoyed that hour.

Surfing was the fifth album I ever got, and I bought it as a young teen with my own money when it first came out. I wore that cassette out. It is still among my favorite albums. I will never stop loving Always With Me Always With You.

Thank you for interviewing these two legends! I grew up listening to Vai's Passion and Warfare and Joe's Extremist albums religiously. Learned to play Summer Song and Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness at 12 years old. Well, at least my closest approximations of them, haha 😂. Just saw them live for G3 in Los Angeles, and they're still killin' it! Thank you, gentlemen, for all the years of great music.

I am in a consensus with all of you ….. Years of hard work with understanding, knowledge of music and mutual respect within the industry of great musicians…. Time, patience, and it has finally all come together for Rick and I could not be more happy for him that finally he has broken into the complete respect category among our greatest musicians on the planet wanting to spend time to meet, tell their stories and most of all just hang as mutual friend musicians…. So happy that all his years of making such a great channel for all of us to witness has paid off….

Two guys who became obsessed with the guitar. I love it! These guys rip man. I was a schooled drummer and now I have started guitar and bass. Jerry Cantrell, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Steve Ray Vaughan, is what I'm listening to. My guitar playing is getting good listening and practicing to these players. It is a guilty pleasure my brother and I inherited. Hard rock, Southern Rock, Blues, Grunge are my life lately. I am obsessed with music again and that is marvelous.

"What do I need to learn or not learn. [ ] There has to be a real interest in order for there to be any retention". This is so true regardless whether it is music or anything else you choose to do in life. It is such a challenge these days to get young people to not just recognize their interests and chosen paths, but to commit in both time and energy to wanting and needing to know everything there is to know to succeed at those interests. Interviews such as this are absolutely priceless as a means to mentor and to realize that even the best among us sometimes struggle to be who they are. And again, so much respect from Steve and Joe to Rick for who he is and what he is doing. So awesome.

Hey Rick, that interview was just beautiful! The way they talked about their early days, shared stories, and praised their favorite guitar players was so inspiring. Their passion really came through, it was amazing! And you know what's even more amazing? Despite being miles ahead of everyone else when it comes to guitar, Steve and Joe showed such humility.

At least once a week I look over at my wall where 3 of my Jems are hanging and I see the Steve Vai signatures on them. Immediately, I realize how blessed I am to have been able to meet Steve on numerous occasions and even JAM with him on stage. I still can't grasp that concept that I jammed with Steve Vai and on another occasion I jammed with this band separately. You know, I'm not the greatest guitar player compared to most of these guys out there but that moment planted this eternal seed in my mind. It's the passion to keep playing the guitar and never putting it down. I've got 13 guitars and I'm sure that number will climb! Just knowing that 3 of them were blessed with the Vai touch is something I could have never guessed would happen to me. You crumble to your knees when your in front of that insane musical talent. Truly inspiring and I wish I had better words to properly convey how much Steve influences my musical life. I'm sure others too.

Was at the G3 concert in Toronto featuring Joe, John Pertuccu and Paul Gilbert. I was quite fortunate to have waited outside after the show, got a picture with Paul and he signed my cd and ticket stub. I was definitely thrilled!! Then Joe popped his head out the door and maybe signed 4-5 pieces. One was my ticket stub!
