The craziest part of the DCT Filter that nobody is talking about is in regards to the updated bulletin that says to Change the DCT Filter first before running the Tool Scan Flush. They said if you flush it with the older filter in that it could force some of the contaminates out of the filter and back into the transmission system. That document is a screenshot of yalls system. It is on all the corvette online forums. So to me it makes more sense to put a new filter in run the flush and then throw the new filter in the trash and install a new one after the flush. Cost another 100.00 plus for the second filter but worth the peace of mind. Also the service techs in my area have no idea what the procedure is or what is involved in anything to do with the dct on the c8. They all have to put me on hold for a while and look into it. You can't make this up. The lack of transparency about the DCT from gm to the dealers to the buyers is on a level i did not think was even possible.
@ewired115 күн бұрын
Actually the statement of replacing the filter prior to the flush is for vehicles that have went over the recommended mileage not on a unit that is in within recommended mileage. With that said I'm thinking the same way as you. Could some of these possible issues come from cars that have a transmission that wears down the clutches faster and puts more debris in the filter than normal. Then by running the flush procedure, regardless of mileage, is pushing debris past the filter adding to the potential of a failure later down the line. Who's to say that a 3500 mile filter doesn't have more debris than a 7500 mile filter. Strictly depends on usage in my opinion.

I don’t drive my Z06 that much but I will change the DCT filter after 1.5k miles, then change it every time I replace my engine oil, I made an opening on the aluminum panel for the DCT access, super easy to change the filter now. After 3 years, I just change the trans fluid and internal filter. It’s not that hard nor confusing, filters and oil are cheap insurance. Plus changing the DTC filter will make the car perform much better! GM already stated that the flush is not needed, it’s an extra procedure because they can and have the means to do it. If you want to do it for a peace of mind then just put the car in neutral, rev the engine to 2k RPM for a few mins, then put the car in park and change the filter!!! Rick changed the fluid in his C8 way too early and it was like brand new!!! but anyway, just replace DCT filter as often as you can, it won’t hurt !!!
@robertparis469816 күн бұрын
To the person whose dealer allegedly did not do the "flush" procedure when they replaced the DCT filter, they probably did do the "flush" and even if they hadn't it does not matter since Josh Holder [Corvette Chief Engineer] stated that simply driving the car simulates the "flush" procedure.
@mikethetrucknut16 күн бұрын
Serviced my dct filter at 7500miles and at 9200miles my transmission went out. I had added the two extra liters as well when changing the filter. The local dealer did not add the two liters to the new transmission when they installed it but said i should. what a pain in the arse.

Great presentation on the on-going DCT mess. As more and more used C8s are purchased, and buyers run into 'No Warranty' on the DCT from GM because previous owners failed to correctly service the DCT, the current perception that the C8 DCT is prone to failure will only get worse. Additionally, prices of used C8s will significantly drop as buyers do not want to take a chance on a bad DCT and GM telling them "sorry," but the DCT was not serviced correctly. While the C8 is an amazing Vette, the increasing DCT issues will tank the C8 long term. You might as well make a DCT Tech Tuesday episode each month from now on.

Bought a 21 z51 a few weeks ago. 9500 miles on it. Chevy dealer replaced the dct filter at 5000 miles. At the time there was no letter or anything in the manual that says you can't change the dct filter a couple thousand miles sooner then what the manual says. In my case 5k vs 7500 miles. Transmission fluid is getting changed next week to keep it within the 3 year mark. I was told by 3 dealership service writers that i would 100 percent be covered by my remaining powertrain warranty should my Transmission fail. The large dealership in ATL said he had two on the rack now getting new transmissions and he said both were bought used and both did not meet the criteria of the recent letter. He got both of them approved. He said in my case it was clear maintenance was done and back then there was not a letter saying anything about a 500 mile either way window to get your DCT Filter changed in order to maintain your transmission warranty. To me that is common sense but it sucks because they could still deny it or make me fight for it should i have an issue.

Regarding the optional extra 2 liters of fluid, let me tell you what happened to a fellow Lone Star Corvette Club member, who annually runs his non-Z06 in the VERY fast open-road rally in far west Texas, where some speeds approach and exceed the 180+ mark. Yes, that fast. He wasn't able to get his C8 above 160 or so and couldn't figure out why. Long story short, after much back & forth with Corvette engineers, they determined that the extra DCT fluid he was running caused hot fluid to hit an internal temperature sensor that normally would not be affected. This was happening in 6th gear. This sensor told the computer to supress engine RPMs, resulting in the slower top end. Just an FYI, because very few of us will be running that fast, but some do. Keep up the good work.

I read on another post that some cars were manufactured with a poorly constructed rear chassis that misaligned transmissions and 1/2 shafts that’s actually is causing transaxle/DCT premature failures. If this is true, this would explain why some C8 owners never experience DCT issues while others have multiple failures.
@RichardK-ql7mt5qi2y15 күн бұрын
This is still an interesting subject even though my C7, doesn’t have the DCT. If I were to purchase a used C8, how would I tell whether the DCT service was done or if the two quarts were put into the trans? I test drove a 21 that had 10,000 miles and the salesman said he could not see any record of it being serviced. It had already had three owners and this dealership sold the vehicle. Seemed odd that no records of service to the DCT was recorded. I love my Solar Performance throttle control too! What a great device! Thanks for testing it for us and the assurance that it won’t harm the engine to use it. Still just buying from Rick when I get a C8 or 9. I appreciate all you do!! Richard
@chopperjohn104610 күн бұрын
I did the Soler Throttle Body first then the Throttle Controller. WOW !! I couldn't believe the difference with the Controller !! Now a different subject... As per Trans Fluid Change. I watched one of your Videos a while back on actual Trans Fluid change. I'm a DYI Guy and it didn't look all that complicated. Now I hear that you have to do a "Flush" which is different than a Fluid Change?? I'll be using Amsoil DCT Fluid which is compatible. I can get it at a low price so I plan to do a Trans Fluid & Filter Change every 10,000 miles (and an Engine Oil Change every 5,000 miles). Like the Experts say, "it's never too early for Fluid change".

I noticed no difference in top end performance but, did I did tweak ( tried a variety of modes) on the controller. Good results between Sport 4-9. Some different setting for Rolling Drags… 1/4 mile drag tried most every competitive setting. Bottomline, which ever setting you use, you will need to adjust your throttle timing (obvious) need to spend time to get it right.

I have a 2017 Grand Sport with the Z07 and Heritage packages. I bought is used last fall with 21000 miles. The only issue is the truck will shut and cycle to close, then in about 2-3 seconds open again. I know there was a tech bulletin on this recommending reprogramming the module. This has been done three times. My technician has it again trying to determine why it happens repeatedly. Y the way he is a GM tech who works on Corvettes but we are stumped. We wonder if the module is needing to be replaced. Any suggestions? And thanks in advance for your response.

Its not fair they send a letter out after the 4th year of the car saying that filter needs to be changed at 7500 miles even if you changed it at 5000 miles. For those who just changed it and now have to pay for a new dct filter after a few months of changing it is not fare to the customers. Funny thing, my dealership actually showed me the service bulletin on their computer that showed GM stating the window was 1000 + or - from 7500...so 6500 - 8500. Guess that was not the case. Oh well, have 7200 miles now, so might just drive a little less and wait and have the 3 year fluid exchange and next DCT service done at the same time in July to save several hundred dollars. I knew it was going to be expensive, and I am fine with that, but GM changing the rules each year on the transmission is ridiculous. Guess those $20k transmission replacements under warranty were adding up, so this is GMs way of trying to get out of backing their product. Just another typical greedy corporation.

The manual seems to indicate that every 24 hours of track use the transmission fluid and external canister filter needs to be changed. Could you confirm? Given the frequency of this requirement the difficulty and extraordinary expense of changing the fluid and filter (or just even adding transmission fluid) seems very poorly thought out. These DCT issues show the difficulty they faced moving to a mid engined platform. Porsches (neither mid nor rear engined) do *not* have these issues. Certainly makes the C7 look good from a tracking perspective.

I just took mine in to Terry Labonte Chevy in Greensboro NC. They told me $1200 for the dct filter exchange included 2 liters x 100$ per liter. They told me about the letter and said they would replace all the fluid (a full flush) for $1800... Does that sound right??
@frankkeel841015 күн бұрын
People keep paying these ridiculous prices. See if a all Corvette shop will do it for less than that Ferrari price.

I paid $1500 in Dallas area

According to the maintenance schedule in the 2022 owner manual, brake fluid is to be replaced every five years. RTFM - there is no reason for the person to not have known that he needed the DCT fluid replaced at three years regardless of mileage since it is in the manual. Read it!

Cuz they say if you got it done at 5000 me you have to turn around 2000 me later and pay again and then at 3 years which ends up being 6 months later you got to pay again which is like $8,000 they're making us pay for all these damn Transmissions they didn't there needs to be a lawsuit on this immediately

Stock Z51 tires are directional, so they can't be rotated at all. Not sure about the non Z51 stingray tires.
@stevelange88915 күн бұрын
No there are Not directional they only have a outside and inside but not directional
@kevinpimm749115 күн бұрын
@@stevelange889 I stand corrected. I could have sworn they were directional, but I went and looked in the garage to confirm.

My so called Corvette specialist at my dealer said you don’t rotate the tires at all

Only a wanna be corvette owner would say something so untrue. A 100k Sportscar with maybe 2k in maitance costs in 3 years 22k miles is super affordable and cheap

Fine line between recommended and required. Everything seriously depends on how hard you drive it, and how many miles you put on it …. I only drive my car about 1500 miles a year …. Not wasting money on recommended service
