Welcome back to another episode from The Balcony Series. It's Adam DeVine!! CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE IT?!
He’s one of the best young comedy actors and accidental romantic leads from films and TV shows like Workaholics, Pitch Perfect, Isn’t It Romantic, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and most recently Magic Camp, to name a few.
Adam proves to be just as funny, playful, and sincere on the balcony as in many of his roles, and he and Rick get straight into directing some goblin bits (and guzzling some goblin bits!).
The two have an insightful conversation about Adam’s new documentary produced by Lebron James that goes into detail about a horrific near death accident Adam experienced as a child and about growing up after scars and all.
The boys recount meeting at UCB and Rick being somewhat enamoured while Adam retells some foresight in knowing about Rick’s Stand Up future. Adam is somewhat interrogated about how he prepares for nude scenes to Rick’s disbelief and we get to see more than we bargained for as an audience member.
We hope you love this very animated conversation, Boppers! Also we’re doing exclusive BTS “BEHIND THE SNAPS” from episodes like this and many more so if you want more (exclusive) content, head over to our PATREON! / takeyourshoesoff

Rick asks so many honest, self-realised and "why would you ask a celebrity this" questions, that I need to not pretend I know how interviews work anymore. TYSO is a top tier podcast.

To be a truly good interviewer you have to respect the person, but not the status. This is why I love Bobby Lee. He’s generally the same old Bobby Lee no matter the status of the person he is interacting with.

Rick, thank you so much man. You’ve introduced me to new ways of being comfortable with bringing up my own mental ticks to people. I struggled with letting others know when something is in my mind and bothering me. Seeing how open you are with people and your own quirks has completely changed my life, no exaggeration. I’ve mended bad friendships because of my newfound comfort with myself. THANK YOU!

@Rick Glassman is pushing comedy vodcasting (or whatever the medium is called) forwards. It's really nice to see - The medium is in its infancy and is so rough around the edges, the pandemic has pushed it back with all the potato-quality zoom calls, and other comedians are settling into a comfort zone without expanding the art. Rick is bucking the trend by innovating playfully and seemingly effortlessly. Some other comedians are doing a great job too, but this one piques my interest the most, in the way that it is pushing the cart forward. I appreciate that, plus the general quality to detail, the way he nudges every convo into bits (and highlighting the guests' skills as they play along), and high quality editing & production. Oh and he is a great interviewer, extracting great stories from the guests, and generally connects fantastically with the guests

This has been my favorite podcast ever since I discovered you through Esther Povistsky's first appearance. You have an incredible sense of humor and you are very intelligent, emotionally and otherwise. I also didn't discover that I was on the spectrum until I was an adult, so I really connect with your "late introduction" to self-awareness and I certainly appreciate your openness about the topic in past episodes. It's nice to have a different representation of what being on the spectrum can look like, as many people carry a certain picture of autism in their mind without being able to understand that you can still be extremely intelligent, well-spoken, and very socially aware "even" as someone on the spectrum. By the way--production quality is fucking incredible and I have yet to see a podcast on the platform that compares. Definitely joining your patreon!

@@rickglassman sorry just saw this. If I remember correctly there was less worrying about how the podcast was going, probably because it was going well. Sometimes you can pick apart the podcast/conversation and how it's going before it's even really started, which can be very interesting because you're very good at verbalizing the inherent awkwardness that comes with podcasting. This episode felt like it had a lot more funny back and forth with less analysis. Don't get me wrong though I love the analysis.

Our best/ worst/ eventful night was the ep when y'all weren't hungover for work... you were still drunk. I actually cried when Adam did the roller blade bus scene and internally screamed when he showed up in the gas station. Idk, writing, collabs, personalities, points of view, quipping, riffing, ball busting.. makes me feel like home when I felt most at home even though I'm being the most lame person I can imagine rn.
