Thank you for your tutorial. I managed to set it up and scanned a few photos. When I tried to use it again the next day, the light did not turn green and I was not able to use it. What did I do wrong?

I really wish I had watched this video before I bought the product. I already had a fast 300dpi scanner and thought I wanted the higher 600dpi. Mine is also putting a line through on 600dpi and is much slower for little to no obvious improvement in quality. I may have to return it.

Are you only getting a line with 600dpi? I wonder what could cause that. I do like this scanner but it's not for everyone.

What was the dpi settings when you shot the video? I am interested in the speed of scanning of a photo at 600 DPI

If the scanning is fast, it is 300dpi. 600dpi is quite a bit slower. I have an example in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaanYnyGrMyHZ7s It should take you to just before the 600dpi scan.

Do you know if you can use any glossy A4 sized paper to calibrate the Z 300? $15 for 1 sheet of A4 paper on Amazon seems absurd!

I'm not sure about that. You might try contacting Plustek via email (you can find it on plustek.com). It could be a dead end but it is worth a try.

It would have been better if they had designed in some paper guides to make the photos go through straight.

I didn't have too much trouble getting them to load straight but some guides would have probably made it a little easier. I had more trouble with it occasionally unnecessarily correcting the rotation on a photo. Overall this was a lot faster than my flatbed scanner.

I was guessing the answer is no so I tested it and that is correct. You can feed two photos at the same time but it doesn't auto crop them so it isn't convenient.
