Ppl outside of golf find time to play golf and practice outside of our normal work week. I think because you work within the golf world, it makes it less appealing to commit to make the range etc? Also… I’ve played golf for 30 years… there’s nothing in my life I have done for that long and still been average 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣. I have been following you from the pre-beard years and I have enjoyed your best rounds and I’ve weirdly enjoyed your bad ones even more. I can hear the emotions in your speech and it hurts to see the toll that this has taken on you and it’s even worse to see that it’s amplified by the very people you do it for. I am not really bothered what Rick shoots. It's what these videos bring to us with regards great golf courses, factor of the wind and what the greens are like is what's important. Your telling us a story and we love it. The content is superb and this series I think is the heartbeat of your channel. If you shoot 69, or 79 doesn't matter. Your game will improve as will your scores, but your struggles are just as important to us as your best rounds. We can relate. Please keep this series going. It's magnificent.❤

Also, as viewers/fans etc, it can be so easy to forget that Rick is just a human being. He has a family, needs work/life balance, must have stresses that we can all relate to. And we can relate to some of (well for me a lot of) the things he talks about in this video in terms of not feeling great about yourself and not having the correct priorities. I could feel the hurt and pain in the video but that brutal honesty is why Rick is universally loved. We all go through times like this and what makes us as people is how we get through the bad periods. You have the support of everyone mate! Don't be hard on yourself. It will come good with time

Break 75 is a blast to watch. Even if sometimes it’s the break Rick series. The bucket list courses are proper hard. Not to mention I think Rick plays from the tips. I played a course the other day where I scored lower than my handicap but my handicap went up. It’s all good Rick. We still love you.

Your handicap went up because you lost a better round from you calculated 8 rounds for you handicap. I can provide an example myself. I started the last round of a tournament in 0,8, shot 71(-1), and kept my handicap. The round corresponds to a +1,1 hcp, but my 20th round before that round was a round corresponding to +1, so I essentially just replaced good with good. Had i shot a bad round, I would have went up, since I would have had another round in my last 20 replace it.

Guys, I just want to say to you both is this. I have been a fan for just over a year, and your channel has changed my life for the better. I broke my back some years ago, and to be quite honest, I had pretty much given up on life thinking I would never be the same. I was for the most part just sitting around waiting to die just eating my feelings. One day I opened KZbin just looking for something to curb my boredom when I came across a Golf Bidder challenge video. From there I went to the channel and started watching all kind of different videos from reviews to break 75. Those videos sparked something in me that I thought was gone and they helped me begin to make a change in my life to lose weight and get back on the golf course. My life is changing more and more every day because of your channels and others I watch as well, but it started with the Rick shiels golf channel. I feel like you saved my life guys for real. I did my back and neck too. I could hardly do a thing and found the simplest things I took for granted so hard to do, like going up and down stairs, sitting at the table or walking 100yrds to the end of the road, but didn't you find getting in and out of bed a real pain in the **** ? plus I was surprised just how quickly I got fat too, so much so one of my nephews got me a bra for Xmas which was pretty funny actually.

I have since lost 19 pounds and i am trying to get my life back and i have started swinging the clubs again , just to help get limber. I will succeed though and I may start putting my journey on youtube if I can get the equipment to do so. Maybe I can inspire someone else , just as Rick and Guy have inspired me.

Rick, you are clearly a talented professional. We all want to be better golfers, and I'm sure most of your your subscribers want to see your very best golf because it inspires us to be better too. You are better than many of us. But sometimes our day jobs and home lives dominate our time and we fail to dedicate time to continually develop the skills that got us where we are today. Work out the balance. Delegate to make time for development and you will be breaking 75 with ease. Anyone hating on Rick like “oh his golf game is regressing” or “ he is putting on weight”… they’re just jealous because they think “well I shoot 90, I should be making millions and hanging out with tour pros on the best golf courses in the world”. And they’re just ignoring how much talent and effort it takes to be where Rick is professionally. I say carry on Rick, keep doing you buddy. This channel is what it is because you’re a real guy with a real life and you’re facing the same issues “normal” everyday people face. As a PGA of Canada professional that's somewhat leaving the industry, I feel stuff like this immensely. We are put under unrealistic expectations of playing well 100% of the time, incredible criticisms when we don't play well, and the mental side of the mental game plays torments us. On top of that add in balancing a job, family (father of 2 young girls), other commitments (town council, committees, etc.), and teach golf lessons, there literally isn't time to practice or exercise unless we don't sleep or don't work. I feel for ya Rick, keep doing what you're doing as it's incredible what you've built and grown. The good golf will come and you're putting work into it.

Or warm up at the range, see what his tendency is that particular day, and play that shot shape predominantly. You are right. To say this shot I will hit a medium height draw, and the next a high fade. You have to be at a higher level to go for that kind of precision.

Rick. I have been playing golf since I was 14 years old. I am now 66. In these days, I could never break 80, never mind 75. I realize that you feel you are struggling and by your standards maybe you are, but what you need to realize is that most of us struggle a lot worse than you. And to top it off, you are hitting from the back tees. You know, you could edit your videos and show only your good shots. But let's be honest, the average golfer that is watching your videos, hits a lot more bad shots than you. And for me, watching you hit a bad shot and then be able to recover is very enjoyable and encouraging. I would rather watch someone like you, than say a scratch golfer every week. With you, I can relate. Thanks for your honesty.

Long, but highly pertinent to this show's subject. I started working with my grandson 6 years ago to teach him golf basics. Much to my delight, he not only showed enjoyment, but some real talent. He has now surpassed my teaching ability, so I've hired a professional coach for him and he's playing the Jr PGA tournaments in Colorado this year for the first time. He's just 15 and shooting mid to high 70's on his good days, and still works very hard to keep improving. It's a true blessing to see his development. Do I sound like a proud grandpa? So here's where you fit in. He has a professional coach to deal with mechanics and fine-tuning his swing. But I've had him watching your videos for years. Why? Because the one thing I keep telling him is to simply enjoy the sport, the environment, his playing partners. And appreciate being outdoors in a beautiful setting away from other pressures of life. I continually point out that even when you suffer through a bad round of Break 75, it is so abundantly clear that you still enjoy the game, the challenge, your playing partners. And similarly, the joy you openly show when you play really well is terrific to see. And you take joy in your partners hitting great shots as well. So far beyond the issues of teaching golf mechanics, you are a tremendous role model, whether you are in the groove, or down in the dumps about your golf. Most importantly, stay who you are regardless of scores. I've told my grandson many times -- be the guy other people want to play with because they enjoy your company on the course; be Rick Shiels. And BTW, he and I have watched your long video with Ian Poulter twice now. Exactly as I described above, Ian showed he shares your joy for the game and everything about it. He very poignantly showed that a focused professional can still be playful and a gentleman, yet turn on the competitive juices when needed, yet still be a fun playing partner. I don't know if this makes you feel worse, but I really would like to share, I started playing golf July 19th, 2022 and last Saturday I shot an 88 at Hermitage Golf course, on their course called Presidents Reserve, from the pro tees. I love Rick and the break 75 series but it is frustrating watching him snap hook every drive and approach. I just want to see him play well or at least play happy. Maybe a new set of fitted clubs will bring back some of the magic. Bluey needs to go in the bin. I discovered your content during the first lockdown and it made me return to the game after about an 8 year break. I would like to say that the reason I prefer your content to others on KZbin is because it’s relatable. I have played well at times, I’ve played horrendously. My physical appearance has changed for the better and the worse. I have had work and family commitments over the years which has caused my game to slip. Hey Rick. Appreciate the humility. Don't sacrifice family time for more practice, building your brand, etc. That's not a transaction you'll look back on in 30 years and say "I'm glad I spent less time with my family so I could shave 2 strokes off my game." Now you have the studio you really should combine practice and business and take us on a journey of improvement. Get the coach, do the coaching sessions, share the shot data as you go through the process. The viewers will lap it up!

It’s such a tough game! I play off 4 and a couple of years ago had a really bad spell, it was heartbreaking, similar situation with busy job and young family. Golf means so much to me, I had to find the time to practice with a coach, was worth the grind, in a much better place now. The great thing Rick is you know it’s in there and often it’s small things, won’t be anything major. When you make a few tweaks and hit the middle, confidence grows and you will be smashing it! Agree with other comments saying it would be ace to see videos of the lessons and how you approach improvement. A ‘’Back to 75’’ series would be cool. Adore the videos, it’s more your personality and chemistry with Guy I tune in for. We all struggle and it makes it more human. Thanks for all the effort you put in to creating great content, love it! Rick, you and the team have done so much for so many people. You are the reason I have got back into golf and reintroduced our cricket club golf day too. Golf is all about the enjoyment and social aspect with people you get on with. In so many episodes I have watched you and Guy (along with guests) appear to have such great fun and chemistry and genuinely enjoy what you are doing. So many of us will not be going anywhere and want to see you enjoying your golf again. I love your work. I've learned so much. My game has improved so much. One of your main points in doing equipment reviews is that you give "real, honest, unbiased feedback." In something like Break 75 we also get "real, honest, unbiased golf." You could edit out bad shots and play another ball and we'd never know. But you don't. As you say "Golf is hard." The wind, rain and cold make it even harder. You play courses you've never seen before. That's hard. You spend time "working" (running a business) instead of practicing golf. We deal with the balance of work, family, budget and golf too. We get bad lies. We understand hard greens on which the ball won't stop and bunkers that take multiple strokes to get out of. We've all groaned while watching the ball slice out of bounds. We know the frustration of planning a chip so carefully and then fatting it half the distance or blading it twice the distance. I’m going through a tough patch at the moment but two months ago I was in the top six of every competition in my club competitions! My handicap has barely changed but I can’t get a good strike! It would be good to see you put a handicap change onto the show!! Everyone goes up and down! Remember best 8 from 20 you easily hit enough good rounds to hold your handicap! Start tracking it! It will raise your confidence!

FOR BOTH RICK AND GUY Guy: We’ve gotten to see your golf game grow, and we can all tell it’s grown from your friendship with Rick, and that you’ve taken him serious on and off camera as a friend, and professionally. And your swing has developed so properly. The world has loved every second of it. Rick: You have shown us all that you are a very top level class golfer, and even then get the tips like the rest of us scrubs lol. You show and exhibit the very essence of golf that everyone at every level goes through. Start off +5 thru 4, then a mean 4 or 5 par streak followed by a birdie here and there etc… As well as becoming more than just a KZbin personality. You actually influence the golf WORLD. This podcast hit a little hard and is scarily relatable. I love golf but being a similar aged Dad and work/life situation I too have found my golf game has struggled of late - all after a glimmer of hope when i switched focus from running more to golf practice since completing the London Marathon this year. It all comes back to wanting to play your favourite hobby as well as you can - yes it’s fun just playing with mates all the time, but show me one person who likes to fail regularly against your own expectations. I have no answers - we all walk different paths and discover a balance that works for each of us - but I felt like you were almost talking for me today, Rick. I’m sure you will find a solution - you almost always do with the success your life has brought you through your hard work. I just wanted to say thanks for being so honest with your struggles.

I absolutely love the honesty in this video. I completely understand what you mean about some comments being like they're from a family member, they sounds exactly like every Irish mother. It's great that you lads are calling out the comments from "gimps" that are just completely unnecessary and ridiculous. I've followed you for about 5 or 6 years and attribute almost everything good in my golf game to your tips and tutorials. I'm looking forward to you getting back to where you want to be with your game as there's nothing more satisfying than a really great, enjoyable round of golf. You deserve it! Love the honesty Rick. I was in the same position last year (without having 500k+ people watching every week)and really not enjoying golf. Had a lesson and practiced 60-100 balls any weather everyday in the garden/course looked like complete nutter to my neighbours. Its taken until now for it to really show dropped from 10 to 5 but best thing is im loving golf again. Stick at it you’ll come good

Thank you for opening up and talking about it. As much as I enjoy your content I enjoy it more so when you’re playing well. Personally, I like the discussion and watching you play for little tips here and there to improve my own golf game. You clearly love golf and in my opinion you definitely need to allocate more time to improving. I watch a few KZbin golfers and I can say with confidence that nearly every single golfer has lessons from top golf coaches but do not apply it to their long term game. I am sure you know, and you are a much better golfer than I am but to me your takeaway or move away is wide open to inconsistencies. I hope you get back to the level you want to perform at and manage to manage your life as you see best.

Listening to you I think this is where you are also struggling, both chasing a score and over-analysing where you are and what you need/want to achieve. I hope you get an opportunity to explore this and see if this helps, it's making a difference to my game and importantly the enjoyment of the great game. Unfortunately it seems to be a forgotten part of the game where the focus is on equipment.. I have a really hard time believing that bad golf won't eventually effect the numbers for a youtube golfer. Ive been watching forever, and still watch but I never would have started if I didnt see Rick as a solid golfer. Obviously you dont need to be consistency in the 60s, but there has to be a line especially in this more competitive youtube scene where bad golf hurts views. Yeah if you constantly have PGA tour pros on you'll get views, but who wants to watch a golfer try to beat 90?

Sounds like this could be another great series where you take lessons, hit balls and really work on your game, Rick. I'm going through that process right now as a beginner so would be good to see. Don't worry about great camera angles, the audience can be a fly on the wall where we watch you really focusing on getting back to your best. Rick love your channel and use to play some pretty good golf years ago . Have played in a US Amatuer and U S Publinks as well as played for Wake Forest in the 80s . The only thing wrong with your game can be solved through a slower tempo . Work on a slower tempo and your game will slowly come back. You don't need any swing change but just slow things down and quiet your foot work . Good luck

I used to break 75 regularly with my best round a -7 65 until I had a neck and spinal injury in 2019. I started going to the range in April this year after spending years watching golf videos on KZbin while recovering including Rick's hoping to get back playing again.. My swing isnt as good as it was and I've lost 18+ yards per iron and can only manage 9 hole rounds at the moment ( 2 so far) and have shot 42& 41, my short game isn't great still and my driving can be 💩 but i've set myself a goal of shooting par for 18 holes before Xmas and if I do I'm going to upgrade my MP30s to some pro 223 or 221s, maybe a combo set (funds permitting of course) but at the moment I'm just happy to be playing again even in the wind and rain.😄 If I can improve I'm sure Rick's game will come back again real soon.👍

Cant help but wonder if Peter Finch helping fix your game couldnt be the best of both worlds. You can get some kick ass content out of it, but equally everyone loves you two collabing, and he has been playing pretty well recently. Just a random though I figured id write down. We definitely don't watch for the amazing golf! Don't pressure yourself too much! That's only a very small part of the entertainment factor. And, yeah, we definitely root for you when you are starting to play really well, but it's not why we watch! You got me back into golf and I very much appreciated that. I don't know about everyone else, but I enjoy watching the videos no matter how well you play. Obviously we'd like to see better play, but that doesn't always happen. Plus you play alot of courses that are unfamiliar to you in varying conditions. I'm sure being on camera doesn't help either. Keep up the great videos, this is my favorite golf channel! 👍👍

Rick, I truly appreciate the way you lay it all out for everyone to see. Golf is hard and if all we watched were the tour pros, it could get even more discouraging. Not only are the videos you produce humorous and entertaining, they show that no one is going to get it right 100% of the time. You mentioned that content is your main objective. You continue to check that box on a regular basis. With that in mind, would you consider filming a getting back to breaking 75 series on the HITT channel? With camera phones and affordable launch monitors available, many players have tools for improvement in their golf bag. For me, it would be very helpful to watch someone like you go into the HITT studio and record your swing (top down head on and down the line) and then break down your assessment based on what you see. Detailing what you like and what needs improvement and the work you need to correct it. With launch monitor data, you could also provide ball park numbers that we can use to help our own swing. When you speak, it's clear in your voice how all of this is a serious matter for you. Life, family, work, play etc. it's something we all deal with to some degree or another and just another reason you're such an icon. Good luck with the juggling act and I cant wait to see where you take us all in the future!

Hi Rick.. I give you the business once in awhile because I am a fellow golf professional, and it's done in a "tough love" fashion. You know what you have to do to improve. You just aren't doing those things. You want to improve, but you haven't committed to doing the work needed. You will have to make sacrifices, if you really want it. Commit to it, sort out a schedule for it, and then do it. Then you have to maintain things when they are better. Which is also a near daily routine you have to continue, or you slip backwards again. That's just how it is. But you already know this. ;) You just need some tough love, reminding you to get on with it. No excuses. Cheers.

I love the honesty. It’s always shocking how many “avid” golfers have no idea the difference between a PGA Pro and a PGA Tour Pro. That and all the Handicap mysteries. I’m a 6.8 handicap and when I say that then shoot an 85+ there’s a palpable “doubt” of that. Forget things like course ratings and slope, if you don’t shoot your Handicap most golfers have questions.

I respect Rick wanting to keep up a certain level of golf because I know for me, I have the golf bug bad and am constantly trying to improve; I think that is one of most relatable things in golf - trying to improve. So Guy, I know you guys are running a business and, its ultimately about entertainment and views, but it becomes hard to watch someone on KZbin that doesn't at least to appear to have the bug anymore. The key for Rick and everyone is to remember that golf has no master and the best golf you play is the fun golf. Don't be too hard on yourself Rick. Golf is a game of one shot at a time
