I started golfing on my 30th birthday. A friend of mine took me out to play nine as my 30th birthday present. I shot a horrible eight holes and was wondering why any fool would ever play this game. The ninth hole was a 525 yd par 5. I hit a three iron off the tee and it went about 180 yd on the fairway. I went down and hit the same three iron for again about 180 yards. That was awesome. Then I hit a wedge and I was on the green in regulation. Nine putts later I was in but I was hooked. The next day I went out and bought my first set of clubs. That was 19 years ago. I'm still digging in ditches for dirty golf balls and enjoying life that way.

I hit balls at the range a lot and am fairly good at striking it, but I rarely get the time to play. I played 18 on my own today and it quickly became apparent the ‘influence’ that KZbin content has had on me. As well as holding my interest in the sport I love I have also learned a lot through the commentary around how different on course shots are managed. Today I found myself ‘presenting’ with comments like ‘ball is slightly below my feet, hitting to an uphill green, into wind, I’m aiming more left and taking an extra club’. You tube golf has bought an element of course management to the people that was never there before, I now think in the same way I see you guys think rather than just hope I could hit the shot I saw a tour player hit. I have never had this element to my golf before but it is invaluable in me playing better golf (not making better swings or hitting nice shots at the range, but I’m playing better golf on the course). So thank you to all you content creators! I’m sure others feel the same too.

Thanks all of you for the first few minutes. I just started last year in my thirties and played a lot and tried really hard to get better (and also kind of did) but as you said platoing now a bit as I am struggling to get the repeatability. I was coming back today from an my precious weekend round especially frustrated ready to quit and really needed the reminder that it is just hard and the guys you see hitting it so we’ll have done that since they are 7 or 11. But also from Mia to hear that it is ok to be frustrated haha thanks 🙏

I was the same, when I was a junior member we would go up the golf course when ever there was a school holiday and do work , like litterpicking around the course or getting the balls out of the woods next 2 the driving range as loads went over the fences or other odd jobs as we knew all the staff up there,then play golf every day and play in the junior comps on the weekend was a great time now 40yrs old and love the game more than ever so in golfing turms got like years out on the course.

I am a man, and I and my friends made our women friends join. It's really funny to see people surprised to see girls playing. It's easy to get people to golf, just highlight the nice things (being out with friends, time outside in a beautiful place, competitiveness, etc). However, I do know many male friends that want their golf to be separate from their wives...

Something to add to the discussion of adolts getting involved in golf is that a lot of these adults (Perrents) get involved because the kids want to get involved. (Want to go to the driving range or want to play a round of golf with dad ext.) Now you have two new golfers involved and learning golf instead of only one. This in my opinion is where golf and equipment sales will continue to show the greatest growth.
@StevelandCleamer Жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with loads of the takes on the topics discussed. My biggest qualm with the world of golf is the age restrictions of having kids on the course (normally 7 or 8). I have a four year old son who can drive the ball over 100 yards, yet he’s not allowed to even play a par 3 course where I live. It’s incredibly frustrating.
@Ricardo-ur5os Жыл бұрын
I understand it personally. 4 years old is a bit young to be out on the golf course, and 100 yards max shots will be incredibly slow for the people behind you even if it’s impressive for his age😂he’s got all the time in the world to play in a few years
@StevelandCleamer Жыл бұрын
@@Ricardo-ur5os while I definitely agree for a legitimate course, there’s a par 3 that’s empty 99% of the time directly across from my house. Plus where I live, they’re very weird about even letting him hit on the ranges, citing the same age restrictions.
@Dreyno Жыл бұрын
@@StevelandCleamer Probably because other people will then start bringing their kids and they might have zero interest in golf and start messing about and making noise and it becomes a crèche while all the regulars get pissed off and stop showing up. It’s not you or your kid. It’s what it could become.

2000 Olympics in Sydney. In sport it’s called somatotyping, basically reviewing people’s physiology and categorising them as having a potential advantage in a particular sport. The used it to identify talent and ultimately the elite athletes ended up at the Australian Institute of sport. As Mia noted, one of the biggest differences in f you are going to be the best is Mental. Look at John Rahm, how would someone with a club foot have been picked as a kid to have Potential to become the best golfer in the world! The reality is, discipline and consistency.

What i love about golf is if you get involved you grow. There are tournements for all different levels and handicap ratings that you can have a blast. Scrambles, Match play, Stablefords. Like anything if you get involved and have the bug to play more you should. Being a pro looks great till you are a pro and dealing with that level of life involvement. KZbin is your friend... if you hear a term you don't get search it. Don't understand a rule? Search it. Over 2k video's on Rick's channel so a great place to start! lol I guess what I'm trying to say is gold is a love not a sport. Enjoy any journey you take and make the most of it.

I also started golf late, and my running comment is if I could go back and change one thing, I would have taken it up much earlier. to be honest, a lot of the things about golf, I would keep the same, I like the fashions, I like that it's a less of a party atmosphere around the game. but I think there is room in the sport for a range of atmospheres, from the purists, to the people seeking every technological advantage, to the people who want to have a party. just maybe not all in the same tournament at the same time.

I think the ideal scenario is the make the game more welcoming for beginners. But also teach them how to play and the etiquette and traditions of the game. When you undertake a new hobby it's easy to get overwhelmed and want everything to be changed or made simpler. But you do have the ask whether you truly want to do it in the first place.

I've been wanting to start golfing for 20 years, unfortunately where I live in Belgium, they seemed to have missed the boat on making the sport more accessible for the general public. It's still very much elitist to the point where I was stared out the club because I wasn't speaking French, even though I live in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium (French being the language of the elite/nobility). I'm so frustrated by seeing here on youtube how the rest of the world seems to have gotten it right for the most part.

Dear lord....does everyone get a podcast? Does gold need to change? No .people need to learn how to play. Golf isn't the place you bring a case of beer...use bad language and pretend your tiger woods. Allow people to play through...refrain from yelling on a course and try taking a lesson before you start hacking away. There ....we fixed the game. Also...remember, Tiger did all this to himself. It's no one's fault but his. We need to stop waxing poetic on every televised tournament about him. You'd free up 40mins of talk every round.....next question
