Thanks so much for this video! Watched it a number of times to get my confidence up on replacing my own Moto G 5G Plus screen. My phone has been repaired in the past and it looks like they removed the rubber trim around the screen. I'd like to replace it, but can't find the part online. Do you have any suggestions? I thought 1mm foam tape might work as a replacement. I have 2mm foam tape but it's too wide. Could I just fill it with black frame adhesive instead? Cheers.

good luck with your repair I would go with using black adhesive rather than a foam/ double side tape

Amazing, all done in 22 minutes, just one break at 11.27mins, no editing. You’ve convinced me to attempt a cracked screen replacement myself. I’ve checked out the material costs, on eBay (UK), to realise it will cost me less than half the price quoted at my a nearby tech shop (£89). I have the tools needed. Please can you help me with these questions: 1. I don’t have a hot pad, I can warm my phone in my NEFF oven on plate warming mode, any temperature from 30º to 70ºC. Even 70ºC sound extremely high, are you sure this is, okay? 2. The alcohol ‘Isoprop……? I couldn’t capture the full name and spec, not even on slow motion/freeze frame mode. Please can you state its actual spec and name. 3. It would have been nice to see how you actually test the new screen (5.25 - 5.40 mins) before fully assembled. If you do another clip showing this, please let me know. Judging from ‘Comments’ it really does work. My phone is the exact make. Hopefully once I’ve got the job done, I’ll give feedback as to how I have got on.

1. If you access to a hair dryer, that would be the tool to use. 70 degree Celsius is fine 2. Isopropyl Alcohol is the liquid used, helps alot with glue but not always needed 3. regarding testing your new screen prior to opening. once you have the phone back off and can disconnect the exisiting screen 5:29 connect up the new screen to the connector. the screen will probably be upside down in your hand as the video cable will bend it that way, but you should be able to test it then

Hi Rick, A resounding success! I stuck with the oven, a more uniform, accurate and consistent distribution of heat, using 60 then to 65ºC which worked fine. The first pry tool (1.05mins) I used a ring pull anchovy tin lid cut to the same shape as yours. The second pry tool (6.01mins) I made from an old hardwood wedge sanded smooth for reasons stated next. Removed the back cover. The lithium-ion battery is like plasticine in a plastic bag! I took exceptional care when removing. I’ve read a few reviews about these batteries catching fire. Thankfully the majority have no trouble, most likely why 70ºC worried me. To remove the LCD screen, I put my phone back in oven for 10mins at 65ºC. Using a big screwdriver (6.52mins) the screen came out in one piece with the black frame attached. Used the oven again to remove the black frame from the LCD screen in one. Thanks for the close ups at 13.47mins (lens rubber rings) and 14.35mins (ear piece) so I was sure I had put them in the right way around. My camera lens needed aligning with a slight push, back into place, from the other side. I saved myself money and learned a lot in the process. I hope this is of help to others. Many thanks Rick for your methodical approach and excellent, in focus, camera work. @@rickstechrepairs

Hello - Can I ask where you get your replacement screens from? - I have fixed two of these now and the glass on the replacement part is so VERY fragile - it is definitely not anywhere near as strong as the original glass that came with the phone.

Perhaps I missed it, but you should advise or prewarn viewers that they should not use metal tools when working on phones or other electronic equipment! Batteries especially should not have metal tools used around them! The risk of fire is far to great, and those fires are toxic and hard to extinguish!
