JBL flip essential teardown and charger port repair

In this video im doing a teardown of the JBL flip essential , this was getting torn down to replace the micro usb port that was damaged

Impressive wrestling match with the flip, but there I was waiting to see the soldering skills in the reattachment of the crappy USB micro socket and suddenly it was all done!

You are right on needing a electric screwdriver for conveniences's sake. I can recommend a Bosch Go and/or a cheap aliexpress generic 3.6V Rechargeable for small screws.

Is this something you could run a direct power source to if you remove the batterys

Possible. Could adapt a barrel connector to it and leave it plugged in to DC

Great Video thanks ! When the USB minicable too the usb loading port on JBL is clitchy an cant just can go inside completelly with some spare mm too fully insert the contact. Can that be any other damage ? I mean why wouldnt the usb-socket for the JBL not be able too insert the usb cable ?

apart from trying a different usb cable, there is not much more i can recommend doing. if the cable doesnt go in, will probably need a a port replacement

How much did you charge for this it looks like it’s so time consuming compared to other repairs like what’s the time vs cost ratio

I charged $40AUD for this repair, which is around 1/3 of the price of a new one Most of the time spent was assembly and disassembly

Yes, but it can't fit the casing since the casing is shaped like a micro usb port

great way to remove hot melt glue is IPA/rubbing alcohol.

Love JBL but they dropped the ball on this one. That part is way to flimsy. I also have the original that doesn't have as much base but sounds great. Its much more durable and don't depend on that charging port.

It's not glue it's silicon they pour in and it sets. Horrible stuff to remove. You also only need take one end off the unit to fix it not both ends and only remove one speaker and undo connectors then put speaker back in to stop it getting damaged . It's a horrible thing to repair to be honest.

Hi, apart from what you see in this video, i have no other experience with the JBL's sorry
