if you can't make it to Lisbon. . .San Francisco has very similar aesthetics and features. I swear SF is patterned after Lisbon city life. . .right down to the golden gate bridge. Compare. .you'll see. Not to mention the bay area has a high concentration of Portuguese within the nation. I'm one. But I'm originally from Terceira [Azores] island. Many Azoreans here as well. 4:08 Notice the purple trees on the left? Those are Jacaranda trees! You might be familiar with them because they're native to your country, Brazil. They were obviously imported to Lisbon. Jacarandas are gorgeous and exotic because of their brilliant purple flowers: they're very particular about where they grow, so they're rare, but they happen to grow nicely in my home town of Los Gatos in the Bay Area! Thanks Brazil! Thanks Gustavo!

What Napoleon couldn't do, the new barbarians, the Americans and their media, are easily doing!... Sim no Brasil, e em vários sítios do Mundo onde os Portugueses estiveram, como em Angola, Moçambique, na India ou em Macau.

You mean that San Francisco has a Lisbon vibe?
@maurice43484 жыл бұрын
I was wondering this too, so i decided to look it up... It turns our San Francisco actually used horse drawn street cars before Lisbon did. San Francisco also seemed to have switched to electric street cars about 30 years before they appeared in Lisbon. So given the context i think it's fair to say that, historically, Lisbon has a San Francisco vibe when it comes to street cars

Regardless of who came first, he is American and the video is targeted towards Americans so the comparison should be to something most Americans know: San Francisco

@@prado1205 right, the order isn't important. It doesn't matter whether apples taste like cider, or if cider tastes like apples. All you want to know is who is selling you the product? In this case; an American. Exclusively reaching American speakers. If switching the origins around makes it easier to convey the message, he'll do so... Well, either way, if both cities (and maybe even others) were able to get use out of this system, it seems like a win for everyone :)

Maurice sure, but if you only ate cider your whole life and I were making a video on apples, I’d tell you “Apples taste like cider”

@@prado1205 Wouldn't it be a bit strange though to consume cider all your life but never once try to find out what it's made of?

Great video! Just one correction: the Igreja de São Domingos in the Baixa of Lisbon is NOT in its ruined state because of the 1755 Earthquake, that is blatantly false. The church is in fact one of many throughout the city that was completely rebuilt. The current structure (both the intact outside and the preserved, ruined interior) are constructions from after the earthquake (1807). The destroyed interior originates in a fire in 1959. It is a common lie that bad tour guides in Lisbon make in claiming that the church is a remnant of the earthquake, when it literally has nothing to do with it.

You can explain it in a more friendly way. Do not be so offended.

You are right! I spent a lot of time hanging around the church and hearing tour guides tell different stories. A beautiful and calm place to sit in :)

Completely irrelevant. No reason at all for such a bad-tempered comment.
