I’m curious about what Ricky’s opinion on offense and comedy is.. I wonder if he will ever talk about it

Robin I'm a lefty and always have been. MOST of the abuse I've had has been from fellow lefties. They are JUST as bad as the right. Also religious people can be BRUTAL. I try to be polite and to the point 99% of the time and I'm very very rarely the one to start ad homming and getting personal and abusive.

Pete Smith SeriusXM (US/Canada Paid Subscribed online radio) aren’t going to release a weekly free podcast of this. My understanding is. Ricky’s ‘People’ releases this on KZbin so the UK can listen to it, as a lot people can’t subscribe to Serius outside the US/Canada (UK only can listen to this on KZbin I believe)
@EyUpDucks6 жыл бұрын
Stridey Gaming GlorifiedJesters I understand that sirius xm is a US paid radio service but if they're allowing it to be played on KZbin which is open to most of the world, why would they not allow it to be distributed on a podcast hosting site. Obviously Sirius has allowed this to be distributed in the UK, so does it really matter what platform it's listened on.

COULD YOU PLEASE AMPLIFY THE SOUND after having it recorded? I don't wanna appear like an ass, given the gift horse, its mouth and all, but currently one has to turn the volume up to +200% on some devices for this recording... Example with freely available "Audacity" (www.audacityteam.org/) open-source audio software (quite good): Import the sound (File->Import). Select the entire track (Edit->Select->All or CTRL+A). Amplify (Effect->Amplify - just press OK). Then export it (File->Export). This will exploit the entire dynamic range, which means that if somebody turns the volume up it will actually be loud. ;-)

This is great, but the thing that Ricky really needs to understand is that a joke about a bad thing isn't the same as the bad thing - it's not even necessarily condoning the bad. It can be anti the bad thing.

27:43 I'm in the middle of agreeing with both of them. I believe no one should apologize for a joke and too many people are too easily offended nowadays; however, being a black man, very often I'm the punchline of a joke in a racial bit. I never offended, but it does feel like being beaten down at times. I assume it's the same for gay people. You have actual homophobic folks terrorizing you, then you have people like Chappelle and Gervis who aren't homophobic, but the jokes are still coming regardless of intent. I don't think this is a problem nor should it be stopped, but I think comedians who do a lot of gallows humor should be aware. Just my two cents. I think Gervis balances it well, though. His stand-up takes the piss out of everyone.

i think Ricky doth protest too much about causing offence in comedy. He's power tripped a lot in the past. personally i wouldnt want to bring the negatiivity he sometimes brings to the world he does. always remember the one about M.E. sufferers. Talk about picking on the most powerless. However he justifies that one, he power tripped and brought unnescary light onto those marginalised poor bastardds.
@lainsheehan76385 жыл бұрын
Great podcast. Ricky does hit on the same points again and again though, with offence and free speech - “Just because you offended doesn’t mean you’re right”. - it’d be alright but he steers the conversation to those points.
@wonderwoman55285 жыл бұрын
Robin’s right when he says, ‘we get picked on by what we say, not on what we are’ (white men) whereas if a woman or a person of colour said the same, they’d be ridiculed, oppressed before the opinion or joke was said. You have to acknowledge that privilege.

Are there any current Podcasts similar to the old Ricky Gervais XFM shows? I really need something funny to listen to, and this ain't it,sadly
@erniehudson16 жыл бұрын
Robin is soooo wrong! All he does is surrendering to identity politics with his stands that one has to protect "weak" groups. I say there is safety in numbers - if you make a joke about a group they never have to feel personally attacked since a whole group has been addressed, for example there is no joke about Germans that can offend me, but if you make an actual joke about me, Ernst then it's different. So, I much more cringe when some individual is personally attacked rather than a whole group. A joke about latino stereotypes can be funny, but if someone jokes about Sofia Vergara being ugly I say "why does she deserve such an attack?"
