It was a bittersweet ending. Eiji couldn't accept Ash's death even after 8 years. He was completely in an eternal state of despair. Yet he was happy that he got to spend time with that miraculous life force. Ash died with a smile. He knew someone loved and cared for him without asking for anything in return. He was content to feel emotions he was deprived of since he was young. He's probably in a better place now, a place where he can watch over Eiji. :')

Fun fact: Even if Ash lived or decided to live, he would live with ptsd, even through the show Ash has flashbacks which is referred to as ptsd. Ash would’ve also suffered with depression, anxiety, and again ptsd. The moment Ash was raped when he was a child his whole life turned upside down. Ash would only remember the dark past and in the show when Dino dies, Ash doesn’t get the satisfaction he needs because it’s impossible to move on after losing so much. Don’t forget his friends died and he blamed himself for it, so to say Ash should’ve stayed would’ve forced him to stay in a life of pain. His pain grew only more when meeting eiji because he loved eiji so Rest In Peace ash

after finishing the show i went to the manga and saw there was more, it was basically shorter and ash's childhood together and eiji's future. After Eiji got to japan, max told him ash died so he went back and obviously he was sad. After a lot of years Eiji got his green card an lives in America now, he and sing are close friends but he never looks at ash's pictures nor goes to THAT library bcs it all reminds him of ash. One of his pictures of ash, he put it in a gallery and named it "dawn". One day he decides to finally look at the pictures of him and ash took together after all of those year not looking at them at all. He cant accept that he is dead and still convinces himself he was just sleeping, as the letter he sent to ash the words he wrote were true. Ash is always in his heart and his soul will always be with him.

what makes the ending of banana fish so much sadder, is how close he was. ash was so close to leaving with eiji or even just saying goodbye. having a new life to start without the constant fear and fighting. with the best friend, possibly more, that he made. eiji helped ash fix his life. and they were so close to being together without being scared of loosing the other. and eiji has no idea ash is gone.

ASH ISNT DEAD AND HERE IS WAY!!! so i've been trying to figure this out for awhile, and here's what i've gathered, the original creator of banana fish wasn't able to write a story with a happy ending for gay people, that one scene where ash was stabbed, pay attention to his clothing and what he does, when he goes to the library, you can see him breathing when he's laying there, he wasn't dead with the letter, he was passed out from blood loss due to lao stabbing him, if you look at the 2nd intro for banana fish, there's a scene of ash walking, IN THE SAME OUTFIT HE WAS STABBED IN!! that scene in the intro never appeared in the show, ash was clenching his hand to his stomach walking down the street TOWARDS where the hospital would be! ash was using all of his strength to get to the hospital, there's no way ash would die that easily after everything he's been through, plus, in the manga, ash died, but there was hints in it that showed he didn't die in the show, "you missed all of my organs.." ash said that to lao after he was stabbed in the manga, also in the second intro, there was a near death scene of eiji, they were comparing their deaths, but eiji lived, so it showed ash survive aswell. in that envelope with the letter eiji wrote for ash, there was a plane ticket, the original creator, since he couldn't write a happy gay story, he did that for a reason. the creators main idea was for ash to survive and go to live in japan with eiji, and so he did, after ash went to the hospital, he went to the airport to go to japan on that plane, google and the manga say otherwise, but i know he's not dead because of the evidence i've gathered, it was a happy ending after all.

Sometimes I just hope that the happy ending theories will come with a second season of banana fish. But I know it’s unlikely, which is upsetting for all of us. Not all stories have a happy ending. Banana fish’s ending was a VERY bittersweet ending, and I don’t know how to feel about it. For Ash it was a pretty good ending. Yes, he couldn’t be with Eiji but Ash knew that he could of gotten help if he wanted to. But he didn’t. Instead he lay their bleeding out knowing that he will soon die. And he was fine with that. He could finally rest and reunite with all the people he’s lost. For for Eiji, I can’t say the same. He lost his soulmate and I’m sure that he feels guilty about it. It was his letter what taken away Ash’s attention and ended up getting him stabbed. And I’m sure Eiji is probably aware of that. So sadly that Eiji got a sad ending, just know that Ash is at peace after living 17 years of hell. Rest in peace Ash

I fell in love with their love story, two halves so completely different that complete each other. *spoilers* Ash who helped Eiji become strong, to give love and gave him a reason to not give up again. Eiji who gave Ash unconditional love, and taught him kindness, who he chose to love instead of rule for. The way the two opened up to each other, their worry and sadness for one other, Eiji praying in bed, Ash falling to his knees in front of a window praying as well. Eiji putting blood on his hands for Ash, Ash putting a gun to his own head, pulling the trigger in a second. Eiji was Ash's weakness, Ash was Eiji's strength. In the end, Ash was never truly free, it was only when he was with Eiji that he got to experience that brief feeling of love, safety, and freedom. If his death means he's finally done, and in a peaceful place, if it means he's atoned for all his sins, i can be ok with it.. but during his brief painful years in this cruel world, it's was Eiji that brought him peace. Thank you Banana Fish, for making me believe in love again, even throughout the misery, violence and death, i learned what it means to love and be loved, and why it matters more than anything else the world tries to force upon us all. Thank you for reading this far. I left this comment on another video, i am just filled with angst.

U cry, suffer but u still had that little happiness cause u meet that person in your lifetime.
