Without watching the music video I thought it was that it was a lopsided relationship in that one gave more than the other. Additionally, "It's this state, in this state i'm living in" He's living dual lives and isn't being himself. "It's just a little bit lonely in this home, it's always colder on your own." He feels alone either literally or metaphorically...or both. "My darling I- I let the season change my mind" Something about December caused him to think that he should say he's unhappy in their relationship. Maybe because December is often a time of family and festivities? "Only in my darkest moments can I see the light. I think i'm prone to getting blinded when it's bright." December is commonly refrenced as the darkest period of the year and is also the end of the year in many cultures. January however, represents fresh starts and new beginnings. Finally, the little add ons after "bright", the emphasis on "God knows I do", and the short "bit" towards the end all convey contempt too me.
