Mrs Blue Sky that happened to me about a Month ago 🥰 I was a child when he died, but remember that night...the reports vividly. I knew a bit of his music from seeing him appear on various TV shows at the time (Solid Gold, etc) & had to have heard it (not realizing) on the oldies stations my Mom & Grandma listened to. I absolutely loved "Garden Party." I still do today, but "Hello Mary Lou" has become one I play at least a few times a week. Timeless voice & music. ❤ Love your name..."Mr. Blue Sky" is one of my favorite ELO songs, a great deal of meaning & from the year I was born 😄

When I vas 15 years old in 1961 I was a young sailor, on a boat from Copenhagen to Oslo, every time we were in Oslo, we go to a coffee shop where they had a jukebox and we play Hello Mary-Lou Again and Again the whole day.😂😂😂❤❤❤

I saw this when it was on TV - the Ozzie and Harriet Show. It must have been about 1958 or 59. I never watched the Ozzie and Harriet Show, but there was a lot of buzz about this, his first song. It was an instant hit. After a couple of years he went from Ricky to Rick, had some success, but none like this song. He stayed with music until he died in a plane crash, going from show to show. Rick Nelson never got the credit he deserved for being true to his music, didn't try to be a teenage idol or have an acting career. He played county fairs, shopping centers, small venues.

I think his first song was Fats Domino's "I'm Walking" a couple of years before this one from 1961....the missing james burton solo is brilliant and was much admired, rightly, by many of the next generation of lead guitarists...great stuff.

Actually he had a feature role in the John Wayne film Rio Bravo, played guitar and sang a song in it.

Rciky had the first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 Hit in 1958 with Poor Little Fool, but before that he already had succes with for example Be-Bop Baby, which was a top 10 hit in the pre-Billboard chart
