Even before Jerm came on, just watching him play, you could see he was having fun for the first time in a while. I'm happy to see him getting an early win and playing some of what could be the best disc golf in his life in terms of mental game, living in the moment, and having fun. Good for him.

Totally agree. If someone is making half a mil… they’re fine. I don’t need to upgrade to a tour series disc of theirs when I can pay half the price and get a stock stamp of the same disc. But if it’s a “B-list” player that I enjoy routing for on tour, heck yeah I’m gonna grab a tour series disc of theirs to help em out on the road.

So, about the post produced stuff. I came in to discgolf in 2020 like everyone else and became addicted really hard. One of the reasons for that was that post produced content was incredible. Jomez was ofcourse the best, but almost every tour stop also had Gatekeeper or Gk pro or central coast posting 2nd card and sometimes even 3rd card action. That sadly isnt the case anymore, atleast not most of the time. It was really easy staying on top of who was doing what back then, because you got to see the top 8-12 for every single shot every event.

@@athistedthetjapper823Often times, signature discs look cooler, have a better hand feel or have different flight characteristics than other discs of the same mold name. A great example is the Sexton firebird. Sure, some people buy that disc to support Sexton, but most people buy it because it flies a little different to other discs and the plastic feels great. A newer example of this is the Eveliina destroyer.

As a player with 45 years experience, decide what molds suit you. Try out other people’s discs! Invest in multiple discs of the same mold! Practice in the field! Instead of getting lots of different molds, master a few select discs, it doesn’t matter what manufacturers! Unless you want to suck as a player.

Honestly, I don't listen/watch this podcast often. I watched it because I saw Jerm is on. But the talk about people buying discs to support the players was very interesting. I would love for a disc manufacturer to release one mold with different stamps for each player. That would be awesome. And it would be cool if consumers could see how much each player is doing by selling each mold throughout the season.

When thinking about ROI, it’s not the retail price of the disc but the profit margin realized on each disc sale. So, in actuality, DD would have to sell significantly more than 160k discs just to break even on Rick’s contract.

14:15 I think major miss people make on the Kona contract is that Kona didn’t sign with a “team” in a team sport. She signed with a brand. She signed with a manufacturer. Kona had won on tour the year before at Waco hit a huge eagle at All Stars. She was a stock on the rise, and at the time was probably the biggest FPO player on social media. Kristin had also just won her first Pro tour the year before. She was not yet a major champion. So the contracts being in the same ball park wasn’t that crazy. Did the return on value prove widely different. Absolutely. Kristin is a 2 time world champion and arguably the best woman in the sport. Kona under performed and wasn’t healthy for a lot of the contract including beating Thyroid Cancer. That is all before you talk about how much better a footing Lat 64 was and is on financially then DD.

I think the primary reason why post produced disc golf content is so much bigger than live & likely will be for the foreseeable future if not forever is for a few reasons: 1- so many people have weekends as their primary free time & want to get outside and enjoy nature. 2- disc golf is relatively cheap and easy to get into & you can play solo or with friends. 3- as far as I am aware there are a lot more disc golf leagues & tournaments than football leagues & tournaments, and those tournaments at least tend to be on weekends.

In my personal opinion, on live coverage; I believe that in order to get a higher average of live viewers is to have more cameras. Sports fans in general like to support the players/figures they like for the respective sport. So I think the question Brody is really asking is, will the fact that the fans know a player/figure is making X amount of money already impact their desire to support them? The real die-hards will still support them while it will certainly deter others to wanting to support their next favorite they fell may benefit from their support more because DG money is not good money in a general sports contract sense. Collectors on the other hand will still buy based on perceived value regardless and ultimately winning is what drives sales more than anything else in every sport. I think Ricky sold more before DD mainly because of the stigma of DD not being more prevalent in the general market.

I definitely buy discs from players I like to help them tour. That's why I don't have any Brodie discs. J/K Brodie, I still got my GF Zone. It rules.

I have bought 10-20 discs in my short 18 month time playing out of the 50-60 I have simply for the player on the disc. Didn’t care about how they flew, hell my simon pixel stays on my desk. Brodie is right.

I gotta agree with Brodie a little skating is the same way you try to support individual athletes cause u like them same with skateboarding but I don’t think it’s a deciding factor in what happened with DD I think that’s just a fraction

It won’t be long until professional male athletes take up disc golf. That and martial arts experts. Only because manufacturers pay players instead of developing disc golf courses and investing in payouts are there not more talented players.

@ well if they’re professional athletes already, just about any other sport pays more… so I seriously doubt they will try to compete in disc golf as well… not sure what your definition of a professional athlete is though

@@Its_me_3333 I made this comment a while back. The days of petite women like Paige Sue or Kona Montgomery being top players are over. The sport has changed. The future of FPO is going to be dominated by power players like Holyn Handley. Being able to throw an extra ~150ft over your competitors is a massive advantage. Unless you handicap FPO holes to 300ft, the sport is forever changed.

I buy like 50 discs a yr soooo it isn't hard to think that 25 million discs get sold a yr across all manufacturers

I'm not buying the flutter argument...it isn't alleviated by gyro tech...it has to do with the profile width and the shape of the rim imo....lower speed discs are more rounded and thicker and they flutter more

Personally I’m the exact opposite of what Brodie is talking about. If I’m buying a disc with a player’s name on it, it is solely because I’m a fan of that player and the disc itself. Never once have I thought about helping them tour. Also, Simon didn’t sell less time lapses and lizzotl hexes after he got his huge payday. He undoubtedly sold more because of the fandom

@@samanthony8121 Maybe for flip up shots or 60% power shots...in that regard, I think the Hex is better compared to a Coyote, Mako, or for me, the Buzzz SS...and I like the compliment in hand feel the SS has with the Buzzz.

I’ve talked to a number of emporia disc golfers on the team. DD did absolutely nothing for the team. Innova offered like the basics, shirts and maybe a couple disc or at least a discount. DD did none of that

I don’t think people aren’t buying signature discs from a player if they already get paid a big salary. Look at Simon - everyone knows his contract and how much he’s salaried for, but his signature discs sell like crazy.

This will be my last year attending or watching the pro coverage. I’m not going to invest my time or money on people that continue to skip us on the tour. I’ll be going to Portland again this year but I’m done with this shit.. everyone we watch online and support through views and sales chose to skip our stop. Always talking about trying to grow the sport but you are literally the main reason it’s not growing like it could. If people buy Patrick’s KC jersey and he decides to skip a game because he’s not feeling it… he will surely hurt his fan base. Brodie.. skips.. Jerm… skipped the tournament to do coverage on it.. Uli is the only one that continues to come through for his fans.

The entire appeal of DD was the personalities and good people who were the face of that company. I used to love watching all their KZbin content and the family feel of the company but once they sold out to venture capitalism all that changed and the appeal evaporated.. then they start putting out like $35 TS discs.. yikes. R.I.P. DD

I feel like Brodie needs to take a page out of the debate night guys and do some actual research before commenting on certain subjects. The reason there's an Innova partnership with the Emporia University Team is because the team wanted to throw Innova discs, not DD. Eric McCabe has already clarified this previously before this podcast came out. Just saying dude, the info has been out there for a while

As cool as learning new discs can be, let's be honest. If Innova offered more years and/or money, Jerm stays. All the other stuff about what MVP had to offer means nothing. Shoot, every Innova run of the same disc is damn near completely different every year. You have to relearn every Thunderbird. Lol
