Do everything you can to avoid fighting because in the real world, you never know what that person's intentions are, what they have on them, how many of their buddies you don't notice are waiting to jump in, etc. Just not worth getting killed over. If you find yourself unable to avoid fighting, give them everything you've got, use any and all force necessary to stop the threat and get away as soon as humanly possible. Some of the scariest, toughest people I know are guys you will never guess, because they are smart enough to avoid starting shit and don't advertise their skill.

I can't say as I disagree with Ole Roscoe. I've toted an ass whooping once or twice but not since I was 14 when I got jumped by 2 brothers, 14 and 16, and I started whoopin the the and then their 18 year old sister came after me and she wouldn't stop hitting me on the back of my head with her math book. I couldnt bring myself to punching a woman out so I bolted. I knew if I had hit her, even though I was completely in the right, my dad would have done a BUNCH worse than anything she could hit me with. That was the last time I wasn't standing over the other guy after the altercation and since I was 18, I've been much like Roscoe when it comes to my own personal safety. I will point out that those altercations have luckily been few and far between.
