Thanks for such a really fun filled interesting lesson Ricky. I'm a 75 year old Fender Strat' Shadows music player. I recently bought a used Epiphone Les Paul, and am getting into BB King. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks. WRONG! Thanks to you, I'm really wagging my tail with BB King joy. More please, if possible. I'm hooked!!

Great video lesson! I slowed playback down a bit and paused it... tossed and to let info sink in. Thank for the alternate 7th chord positions. I only knew the 1st/2nd fret placings. Yay!... More options. Thanks Ricky!😊 from 🇨🇦

hi ricky! Im the new student who's bought the book, is watching all the videos and trying to help you out with the comments and the likes! The thing is, as a book owner, the links do not bring me to youtube, therefore there is an extra step to get to this page... buy the book readers!
@rickysguitar11 ай бұрын
Eyup Matty! Yes, originally the links in the book went direct to KZbin. The problem with that was some of the videos needed redoing so it made sense to embed and host them openly on my website for when I reshot and made better versions of the tutorials in the book. It also meant I could include old versions and related videos. KZbin isn't great as a platform to organise learning materials I'm afraid.

Wow. You are very talented teacher. This is a great demonstration of technique balanced with the right amount of theory. Most KZbin guitar lessons don’t hit that sweet spot. Thank you very much.

Hi, Ricky. Thanks for an informative lesson. I noticed that near the end of the video you mentioned possibly posting a jam track video that would be useful for practicing the boxes described here. I noticed that someone else asked for something similar in the comments, so maybe this is something that would be popular, as well as helpful. I looked through the list of your videos, but did not find any jam tracks that looked related. It would be great to see you playing blues with chords supplemented by the boxes described in the present video. You work so hard at describing how and when to use the boxes, but never get around to playing anything extended that show the combinations - in other words, it would be useful to have a jam track and see you play the blues with the boxes supplementing the work in a real performance. During this video we get to see you clearly explaining what to do, but we never really see enough of the integration - or at least enough integration for me to clearly understand how to fluidly mix the chords and notes from the boxes. Great session - I just want more. Can you blame me, as this is so informative and such fun. Thanks,

Great explanation. More people that teach on KZbin should use a guitar that has fret markers and a good contrast between strings and fret board and last but I think overlooked is camera angle looking from left to right in some instances to show key fingers better. No insult just a suggestion. I am a self taught barrell house blues piano player trying to learn blues on acoustic using fingers only. I like your stuff. Thanks

Great lesson!! This is great for major keys. What happens in minor keys? Just play the minor pentatonic scale? Or does that BB Box work in minor keys?
@neilrobinson76154 жыл бұрын
Great lesson. This answers a question I left in the comments on one of your other BB box videos, referring to the Alert King box.
@rickysguitar4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Neil. It's a bit of a myth that BB only played in his own box. I transcribed some tunes years ago and realised he used all sorts of stuff. He loved that 6th though lol. Thanks for watching :)

I keep coming back to this lesson to mine it for more of the valuable information that it contains. One thing I noticed is that the PDF you provide here is different than the illustration for the same lesson that you include in your wonderful book. The diagram for the minor pentatonic in the lower portion of the page shows a Flat 5th that it not shown on the minor pentatonic box three fragment shown on the PDF handout. I ask this because it is unclear to me when to use the flat 5th -with the minor pentatonic as shown in the book or with what you call the pentatonic Sus 4 in the book and seem to call the B.B King Box on the PDF handout. Or, have I misunderstood your drawings? Any help would be appreciated.
@rickysguitar Жыл бұрын
The book is the definitive drawing. I flip flop on how I see the BB King box depending on context. The b5 is an outside colour. Not that the blues is diatonic.. so standard harmony evades us. It might be fun to revisit this video and shoot it again as I have more to add to this topic.

I couldn't stop laughing when Ricky straight up said "BB C*ck" at 7:35. Just as well Alexa wasn't switched on, or that would've made a very uncomfortable, but absolutely hilarious, edit for a blooper reel. Great video, as always. You deserve far more subs, but that'll come soon I'd imagine.
