Ricster Diaries Episode 67/2 - Devon & London Holiday (2/5) | 29/09/2022

Filmed on 29/09/2022. Moving onwards to the second day of our Devon and London Holiday. After a long tiring journey from the previous day, we start the day by sightseeing of the sights of Paignton seafront, the harbour and also the walk along the pier. Oddly, the end of the pier was closed off as it was only open on weekends apparently. Another point of interest is there is frequent boat trips running between Paignton harbour through to Torquay.
After a good hour or so sightseeing, we go to the trains as we ride on board the 10:42 Great Western Railway Thames Turbo class 166 to our first trainspotting location and also at a brand new station of Newton Abbot. This the so far the furthest south that the class 165/166 units goes now to work alongside the 150/2's on Exmouth to Paignton diagrams. A busy station along the Great Western Mainline with plenty of passenger variety in action arriving and departing Newton Abbot. We did try and get an hours worth of automated announcements but we would have to move between platforms to get them.
Next, we then catch the 13:12 Great Western Railway class 166 Thames Turbo units to our next and final trainspotting location of Dawlish and Dawish Warren. 166202 is oddly still in its First Great Western livery and branding but alongside the rest, is waiting for its refurbishment into Great Western Railway livery, branding and interior refurbishment.
Well, what can be said about Dawlish, absolutely beautiful is one of many words to describe it. The walk to the popular trainspotting location in between Dawlish and Dawlish Warren path was closed partly as we had to take a diverted route. But, the sights along the way are truly incredible especially with trains speeding through alongside the Dawlish Wall. The walk can go as far as Starcross but it was too far to walk. The beautiful red rock formation on the rocks looks outstanding to look at. Plenty of trains speeding through and a lot of action on the railway.
Also and at Dawlish Warren station, there is a rake of preserved and converted MK1 coaches which is converted into holiday lets and accommodation to stay at. We eventually make our way back to Dawlish to catch the heavily delayed 16:18 Great Western Railway pairing of class 150/2 units back to Dawlish. On our walk back, we seen what is 2 very special icons running along Dawlish Warren of Cross Country HST set running to Leeds. These powercars ran a special charter a week before to the Severn Valley Railway to do 2 trips along the Severn Valley.
